  • I installed some Powerflex purple top mounts.

For years I always read that polyeurethane was too harsh and squeaks. I spent $100s on rubber alternatives. Cupra R mounts, various durometer versions. All subpar over time. Compression and felt sloppy.

    So I thought what's the harm, $80, I'll give them a go.

For the 10km I have driven the car with them installed, I am super impressed!! I made sure I greased them to limit squeaking. I have no noise over any surface so far. And the ride quality is really nice.

It feels like absolute minimal deflection from the mount and the suspension is doing all the work.

If your after top mounts, I would highly recommend these over rubber.

Tbh, I'm kind of interested to see what the black versions feel like!! The purple variant is comfortable!

    • I went for a spirited drive to Natural bridge today. https://goo.gl/maps/Ekd1Jx9sG2q

I would highly recommend it. Good road quality and minimal traffic when I went.

Anyone else know some good driving roads around the Gold coast?

Looks pretty good. What size piping did you end up using?

Considering my front mount actually fits behind the front rebar without trimming it and it was a pain to fit the bumper. All I can say is have fun fitting your bumper. [emoji81] Muwahaha

Thanks mate. Its 2.5inch piping. The intercooler in its current placement would have fit without trimming the crashbar. I originally planned on mounting the intercooler directly to the crash bar, but it made it too low. Thats why the crash bar is cut.

Your right tho, I'm not looking forward to getting the bumper back on. Not at all. Ive got to wait to test for leaks first tho as my battery went flat from sitting for a while. I've just got it on the charger now.

edit - oh wait your right, I still would have had to cut the bottom of the crash bar with the current placement.

Interesting. Think my r32 set is starting to make some noise (150k km old, been on coils, bags, now on stock struts) where did you buy them from?

Awesome! And what size are the inlets on the actual intercooler? 2" or 2.5". Did you buy it as a kit?

Actually I ran my battery flat aswell during the intercooler install haha.

It really annoys me how there are so many variations of this engine configuration, both mechanically and electronically.

I mean the audi S3 gets all the love with dual intercoolers, but having this configuration would allow a much better flowing setup on the golf. I really wonder how much the twin pass intercoolers we have restricts the flow with its 360 degree turn to redirect the air.

Would be good to do the conversion that Lito did, me7.5 ecu, flip the throttle body like in the above picture and have a great flowing straight through intercooler which is well hidden away for a tidy engine bay.

Look at this on eBay NEW RELEASE! PFF85-430 POWERFLEX FRONT STRUT TOP MOUNT BUSHES VW | eBay

It's the cheapest I could find them.

150,000 on the same strut tops? I could only imagine how stuffed they are. Mine had compressed 1cm over the duration of 30,000km.

The inlets on the intercooler are 2.5inch too, so its 2.5 inch all the way thru which was handy to not have to have reducers or anything. The intercooler is a CX Racing mustang intercooler that Gav recommended years ago that I just decided to put on recently. The piping didnt come with it, i just bought some pieces off ebay and cut them to size. The silicon is just from Supercheap and I cant believe how expensive that stuff is. $70 for what would be about 60cm all up.

Having the throttle body reversed makes it look super tidy. What advantage does having the me7.5ecu give?

                      • Yeh silicone is expensive. My kit is 2.5" piping but 2" inlets. Obviously to make the intercooler fit properly.

Makes it DBW so you can flip the intake manifold and not worry about orientation of throttle cables.

                        Many other benefits aswell.

                          Cool. I'll get onto it.
Yeah my first set had done less km and compressed a good cm+. These 32 ones seem to last longer, not sure if that's because of lighter car on firmer bushes or what. Last time I swapped them on to stock struts they had barely compressed. Just starting to get a few noises in the last month or so.

the me7 ecu gives you longevity in modding the car..only so much the POS ecu can do
-and stage 1.2.3 flash tuning-CC/gavin-nice guy-second to none service-knows his stuff..

regardless, for 'me'-ive a older skool mindset to all this new jib..
..me7 can be tuned by any knowledgable tuner-not some top dude you send the ecu off that slaps a file from a big company from OS taking away the physical relationship between man/mechanic and machine -no homo- stuff that i have for ever been accustomed to in my passion for speed

grill all you like, give two fks..my opinion!
