Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • The twin pass style intercooler setup is one of the most steathiest mods available. The police wouldn't know what time of day it is.

This is not my car but apparently I can achieve this with the intercooler I bought.

Btw I would love to see air intake temps monitored on that setup and logged with vagcom. I hear a lot of people saying temps are good but with not much to back it up. But a few of you now have that setup and I was tempted for ages, but with no data available I passed on it.

nothing beats a fmic for cooling but it would be very interesting to see how close those smic can get. For reference this is a log I did the other day, ambient temps were high 20s. Very impressed with the cts core.

All I can remember is a thread from vortex from a well known guy who tracked his car who reported higher temps than the stock side mount with the generic eBay taco taco cooler. Even he didn't have logs to prove, but his posts seemed legit. That was years ago and no one has ever posted basic vagcom logs to prove otherwise.

Look at Mr. Fancypants me7 able to log requested vs actual boost pressure haha

So just for context, was that was a 2nd or 3rd gear pull? And until mid 4000rpm, so a few 1000 left in the rev range. Would be interesting to see repetitive 6000k wot pulls in 3rd gear. I heard the local police don't mind if you use the airport runway after hours for testing. [emoji12]

But geez that is a serious amount of boost from such a big turbo.

I'll be logging my fmic for the 30min session at QR in December. So will have some definitive real world results soon.

            • Actually he did post results on the taco taco and I reposted them on this thread..

The temps were just ridiculously bad. 80deg at 4000rpm...

That's a full 3rd gear pull, 2000rpms all the way to 6750rpms (current redline), done in Mexico of course . Would be alot easier if I could find a back entry to the Coolangatta airport, be fun to race a jumbo

But yeah logging is awsome with me7.5, so much fun to play around with the graphs in ecuplot.
This is the n75 duty cycle overlayed, as you can see there is still room for earlier spool and more boost

                              • This intercooler install took away a part of my soul... It's almost complete except for the gigantic boost leak I have during WOT.

The bumper grinding was Intenso. If I painted the intercooler and associated pipe, it would be lv 99 stealth. But it's hardly noticible anyway.
