My reception sucks so bad, I have had 2 or 3 different aerials. I think my base has had it, I know they can corrode after a while.

And so my hatred for the biggest useless money thieving thugs in Victoria known as Vicroads has grown once again.
Turns out that a defect can only be cleared from 830am to 430pm Monday to Friday. Pack of useless ****heads. I'm a territory manager who has a company provided work car and my territory is the western suburbs where I spend at least 50-60 hours per week. To have the defect cleared for a weekender car is going to man unnecessary time off work.
So I cheered myself up with some more soldering tonight. Ended up changing the wiring for the brake light. Now more pro with better soldering to the brake lights, no more silly-of-con holding the wires in place - replaced with zipties and I've now heatshrinked the wires and fitted a generic harness from Jaycar. Makes bugger all difference in how it works but makes me feel better Lol.
