well i used to work in a exhaust place, and looking at the stock bora rear muffler, i thought that big heavy thing is very restrictive and wanted some thing more along the lines of a R32 rear muffler.
I saw this picture on the web somewhere

so i got one made up, only the back muffler for now from the resonator. i have left the stock cats and resonator on for now, in a few weeks when iam financial again i will put high flow cats and an better resonator on.

the rear muffler is the same as the picture exiting into quad tips, the muffler is 3 section, with centre section is hollow where the main exhaust enters then each end has a chamber filled with fiberglass exiting into the tips.

the sound now is awesome even with the stock resonator, on idle it sounds stock, but rev it and it releases a magical V6 roar.

for those interested the stock v6 muffler weighs nearly 25 kg this set up is about 8kg.

tommorrow it get lowered so will post some more pics.

Also that rear valance does not look standard, did u change that or did that come with the Oettinger Ed?

                hi mate thanks,

cost was $300 = gst for rear set up, tips were $100, so $400 lot fitted.

give geoff a call at menai mufflers and tell him set up he did for Eddies black bora.

mate car is a bora sport it came from the dealer with full oettinger body kit fitted.

i can ask him for a price for a group but i would need some numbers.

still $300 + gst is not bad at all for a custom set up.

the tips were $50 each but thats because there twins, i was looking at single similar to R32 tips and they were $25 each so that drops the price, i liked the twin tip quad set up as i saw one on a Golf and thought it looked awesome, plus i think it ties in nicely with my oettinger rear valance.

also check out supercheap they have a good selection of stainless steel tips its good to get and idea what you might like, and there cheaper than buying from an exhaust place especially if you get them on special.

That looks really nice. Is it done in mild or stainless? I do a lot of short trips, so would probably need to go for stainless, elsewise I'll end up eating the exhaust in a short period of time.

The standard rear valance wouldn't suit that design either unfortunately - so I guess I'll have to see what's around...

                        hi manaz

mate its done in mild steel, stainless you could at least add another $200 to the cost. Its really personal preference, stainless will last the life of the car where mild you will get 10 years out of it, plus in my opinion mild steel gives a nice deeper burble sound where stainless gives you a more raspy tinny sound , thats the best way i can put in in words.

plus think about how long you plan on keeping the car, i update my cars every 3 to 5 years so it will last as long as i own the car. plus we live in a fairly dry climate mate unlike europe who go through snow winters and salted roads which rots mild steel quick, so i do not see the need for an expensive stainless system here in oz.

also be aware that the cheaper stainless mufflers have mild steel baffling innards which give way also , you can tell by slapping your muffler with your hand if it rattles its innards are gone even though they look good on the outside, the stock bora muffler has this type of construction also.

which rear valance do you have the stock bora one?

just go through different pictures on the net of boras as see what set up you like and go for it bro...

                        cheers Ed

My parents drove 1980s Volvos for years, and they're renowned for chewing exhausts - Dad was lucky to get two years out of a mild steel setup.

You're probably right on the lifetime though. And I do agree on the tone of stainless - stainless piping tends to be thinner, hence the tinnier sound. You can pay for thicker walled stainless piping, but $$$$.

bought a bunch of paint prep products to prep up my new (second hand) R32 rear spoiler (thanks Oli) and also after waiting three weeks, went to the RTA to pick up my new coloured number plates.

mmmmm black car with black plates and silver writing, loooks the business!
pitty about the $160 a year tho!

I remember a friend got a twin pipe setup on his car at Tuffy (talking over 10 yrs ago) and they used a nibbler tool to cut the plastic bumper to fit the pipe, wonder if the rear valance could be neatly cut to make an outlet on the righthand side.

Might be worth sourcing a spare valance to practice on. Other option might be to just keep it to one outlet on the left for the Stealth-sleeper look. Would it just be a case of blocking up the right outlet on the box?

I'd be keen to go in for a group buy on something like this too... although I've got the standard 4motion valance so want to do something that fits with that without modification...
Nada as yet... But working on it...
