Bought a bit more dry ice today and finished removing sound deadener.
Zale did some more grinding and cutting unnecessary metal.
BFI stage 2 engine mounts (courtesy of Tim at Dub Addiction) are in.
Holy moley they are stiff! Can't wait to see how they feel when driving!
Control arms, and tierods are off for new bushes and rods. Hopefully will get those in tomorrow.
Fuel cell rocked up as well. We have decided to still run it. Shouldn't be too hard to seal it off from the rest of the cabin. Will just put the entire system (fuel cell, surge tank, filter and pump) in a cheap, sealed aluminium tool box in between the rear shock towers. Hardest part will be finding one suitable. They all seem to be either too long to fit between the shock towers, or not tall enough to fit fuel cell in.
Lightweight pulleys have finally been shipped from gruvenparts, so as soon as they arrive, we will be able to fit out new shorter belt and get the engine in!
Need to swap a brake line over as I managed to round the nut disconnecting it from old rear beam.
Exhaust parts have been ordered.
On my way home from the farm atm, got the old bushes out and wow they were shagged will post pics later today.
New R32 lca bushes have been pressed in and new lca to subframe bushes also presse in very impressed with the look of the new bushes and thanks again to the infamous George (stepdad) for helping me out as usual.
Fixed brake line remove from white shell as well as a few other parts fuel filter for part number reference and some hose clamps
Hopefully we will re it the lcas new tie rods and ball joints today as well as short shifter.
Progress posts will be coming regularly as we only have 4 weeks to get this car finished to a stage for nats.
Scored a tool box for the fuel system. Perfectly sized to fit between the shock towers. Isn't as heavy as it looks, either.
Hopefully the surge tank arrives this week.
Have finished one side of the suspension refresh kit. (Ball joint, Tie rod, lower control arm bushes.)
We will need to take the drivers side driveshaft out before we finish changing suspension bits. It seems we may have wrecked the driveshaft flange seal when we were knocking the wheel off with a sledgehammer (was stuck to the hub)
Not at the moment. Basically going to be stock, engine wise except a few little things. I imagine 170-180hp at the flywheel.
Zale was busy tonight. Pulled the down pipe and driveshaft out so we can replace flange seal.
Like we've said previously the engine will be staying stock for quite some time.. more focusing on getting it going with what we have atm and get some track time..
Then a definite upgrade of coilovers and brakes oh and LSD.
Yes yes you should Woody! Whatre the plans for it? and where are you up to with it?
Look forward to seeing this thing at VW nats.
Some dudes told me about your build at Wakefield on Thursday.
Be nice to have something similar to run against.
