I ran a 1:15.7 at Wakefield on thursday in the first session. Was hoping to shave a bit more time and get down into the 1:14 bracket, but had a bit of a moment and put it off the track a bit sideways. Broke a left front axle and had to send it home on a tilt tray
In the shop now getting fixed and will be back well in time for Nationals.
Can't wait to see it and have a chin wag! ^
Shame about putting it off the track!
Cleaned up the shed a bit and got a fair bit done with Simon tonight. Pretty much finished the grinding off all unessential metal from inside the car, got the ECU mounted back up, degreased and cleaned the engine bay, removed the last of the sound deadening/ heatproofing in the engine bay and fitted taillights. New driveshaft seal has been ordered from VW ($45!!!!!!) and that should hopefully arrive tomorrow. If the pulley's rock up this week, we should be able to get the engine in on the weekend!
Help fund this project, buy some of my wheels! haha
Sportmax002's 16x8 Et 0 4x100 / 4x114.3 they have 2 RE002's on the front wheels and 2 cheapies on the rear 1 which is popped and the other is still good with about 50% tread. 205/50/16
$900 for them they are basically new with $400 worth of RE002's on them and the rims were 800 new. Small kerbing on 1 rim
Suspension refresh finished, new lightweight pulley's on, engine and suspension in, sump replaced, intake on. Exhausted. So many late nights. Scored a 4 point harness, bought a fuel pump, steering wheel and boss kit. Still need to buy lift pump. Exhaust is yet to go on. Not sure if we are going to make nationals or not.
Well it took a lot of late nights and a whole heap of help from friends, but we go there in the end!
Our mate Jake is quite handy with a welder and made us up a 3 inch exhaust from some tubing and second hand mufflers we sourced. Whole thing cost us about $200!
Got the windscreen fitted on Wednesday. Another $100 out of pocket
We had problems trying to source a -10 fitting for the tank return line from the surge tank. Austin at Autobarn ordered us in one and got it to us on the Thursday. Wired up a killswitch (which we have now discovered doesn't even stop the engine running hahahahaha) Mounted the tacho using some bits of aluminium and chocked the windows up with some lengths of timber. Made some dodgy door cards up out of 3mm MDF. Started her up on Thursday, sounds like a champ! Thanks to Harry for the help with the wiring!
Friday morning involved us taking a trip to the farm to grab the shifter box and cables off the white VR6 (shifter cables were kinked) and getting brake lines made up (standard brake fittings didn't fit on the bigger brakes)
Thanks to the boys from Melbourne and Albury for coming to help us bleed brakes etc on Friday! Managed to get the car wheel aligned at 5:00pm on Friday. Fixed some fuel leaks, and managed to get out of Wagga at 9:00pm on the Friday night. Arrived at Goulburn at 1am, with Aden at the wheels (while Zale and I slept, we were pretty exhausted haha)
Had a lot of fun on Saturday with our only real problem being that we could only select 3rd and 4th gears (short shifter issues)
Didn't stop us though and Zale managed a 1:20 and I managed a 1:22. Had no issues with overheating (no radiator fans).
Can't wait to see the GoPro footage! We need some better tyres for next time. Locking rear right under brakes.
I'll let the pictures and videos do the talking!
Also would like to thanks Seb (bug_racer) from Euro Automotive. We were ringing him several times a day with questions. He really knows his stuff!
Well done guys. Was heaps of fun helping you out and I was so stoked when I saw that thing in my mirror on teh first out lap at Wakefield. I have footage to come.
I have to say Zale and Simon considering you blokes dont use spanners for you day jobs it was well done. It can only improve and boy did it make the right noises.
