For a rear wheel bearing you need to remove the caliper, pads and disc. Then you need to press the old bearings out if you keep the old disc but I'd highly recommend replacing it while you're there so you'd press the bearings into the new disc.
Installation is just the reverse of removal putting the disc onto the rear spindle then a new split pin and caliper/pads on. It's not that difficult I'd give yourself half a day and $250 for new discs and bearings. And yes you would need to do both sides together.
A mechanic would charge between $500 to $900 as a rough estimate assuming you put new discs and pads on too.

Another question about tailgates, was wondering if i swap to a newer tailgate with brake light on the inside (mine is on the wing outside), what do i need to get it up and running?
Is the light connector (not even sure if this exists) the same?
What about the central locking, windscreen washer and keylock?
Tips on changing tailgates?
Thanks2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG

thanks juzzpc, reason i'm asking is because i just got hold of a series 2 tailgate to replace my series 1 because mine has a bunch of rust.
may give it a go tonight to see if i can adapt the brake light because i know that i can't bring my old spoiler across as the new hatch is missing an extra hole in the middle for the brake light cable.2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG

well tried to swap the hatches tonight but the rains came so i decided to call it quits.
was stuck anyway with the 4x male torx bolts holding the hatch to the hinge.
anybody know what size they are?
i'll probably head to bunnings tomorrow to see what i can get to take them out...Last edited by doridori; 09-12-2015, 09:02 PM.2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG

you mean the 2 bolts that you can see pointing upwards which attaches the hinge to the tailgate in the above photo?
so they're 13mm? i had a look at the bentley manual but it doesn't state what they were but if that's the case i'll drop by bunnings for a 13mm torx bolt socket (is that the right name?)2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG

Replacement tailgate comes with a hinge as well and that had some old car panel sealant (black stuff) on it.
I haven't got any of that so what should i get to apply it on the new hinge before i install it?
thanks for all the help, just trying to learn a bit and have some fun at the same time!2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG

Swapped the tailgates today!
Few issues:
- 99 model tailgate used different diameter vacuum hoses with my 94 car. Luckily I was above to scavenge some rubber connectors from the old tailgate to make it work.
- 99 model interior brake light uses same connector as the exterior wing mounted one on my original 94. Both connect to the driver side tail light.
- tail gate latch on car needed to be adjusted for the tail gate to latch properly
Hope some of that info helps someone2010 Jetta 125TDi DSG
