No idea, that's what the tailgate was tagged as

Either way, it's just the newer one with the interior brake light as opposed to the original where the brake light was on the outside wing.

Probably a mis-label then, it is probably a '97 Mk3 tailgate that came with a black plastic spoiler and internal high-mount brakelight.

If my memory serves me correctly, '94-'96 Mk3 tailgate came with a black plastic spoiler with an integral high-mount brakelight in the spoiler. '98 is when they introduced the Mk4 which was a completely redesigned Golf, so it would be highly unlikely you would be able to fit a '99 Mk4 tailgate to you '94 Mk3.

Huge ask, can anyone tell me the paint code for my vr, 94 model is navy dark blue but has a purple tinge when in the sun, relatively common colour. Cannot seem to find the label for it anywhere

cool, good to know you can find colour using the VIN.
Last time I used my VIN at VW they gave me the wrong parts...that was awkward.
