ya i've been reading that DIY and it doesn't look to hard now that ive got my engine out. And my mum is going to America and said she can bring me back a couple parts so the postage is going to be like $12 instead of $80 so thats nice
whats the quality and lightness for that flywheels?
id probably get a stage 1 at $140 instead of a stage 2 at $500 but ill defiantly look into that flywheel. what advantages so the stage2 have over the stage1 for daily driving and how aggressive is the stage 2? do you guys know of a good place to buy a clutch and/or timing kit in Aus?
I have no personal experience. But the stage 3 wasn't that hard on the left leg, so stage 2 couldn't be that bad. I just feel the Sachs kit is not really grabbing all that well.
Ok, so i got around to taking off the head today and after a bit of a look around i found that the timing was off enough that the exhaust valves on the exhaust side were hitting on the pistons and leaving a shiny mark.
but the timing wasn't out enough and having hydraulic lifters might of helped too but apart from a bit of a smooth patch the valves are fine
the other thing is that the head gasket was pretty stuffed and letting coolant and oil into all the wrong places.
that's all the updates i've got for now. all i have to do (as if its going to be this easy) is buy my new bits, put them on, clean it up, and put it in.
yep im replacing the timing chain, chain tensioners, guides, all the head gaskets, clutch, and maybe the fly wheel. plus a whole heap of other little bits and pieces.
thats what i thought but they seem to be fine. they look straight and seal pretty nice onto the head. i guess the other question is how hard is it to change the valves in a VR?

I'd just get the head reco'd mate, if you've gone this far getting it reconditioned properly would be the cherry on top. That way they'll be able to tell you which valves need replacing etc
