    A blown engine in my garage..

    No vids.

    The slap is from the chains hitting the guides. My chains had little disintegrated them.

          Dude $400 just for the shell is cheap, plus it looks pretty clean .engine wise
          if i were you i would get a oil pressure gauge and check how much pressure u have at idle. that way you would know the condition of your oil pump and main oil galleries.Then check for heat marks on your lifters to see if it has been getting oil to the top of the head. also the cam lobes would have heat marks on them. if they do that means you need to get your head rebuilt.while your there check your timing .when you take off your head check the bores for scoring and heat marks . check if the piston crown is clean or has carbon. because clean pistons means water has been getting in there= BLOWN HEADGASKET. after all of that check your bottom end bearings ,ring gaps etc etc

            its a little late for the oil pressure test as ive almost got the engine out but ill defiantly check everything. but what i have found is that there is plenty of oil on the cams and stuff and i don't think there is any heat marks.
            ill get ya a pic of the cams and stuff.

                so i pulled out the engine today:





                also took some photos of the cams as i don't really know what the heat damage looks like.





                now i have to buy/make some way to mount the engine on a stand without using the bellhousing

                  Good work. Glad to see you getting in and having a go.

                  Supercheap sell engine stands for $40 and up. I have one, had my vr engine on it for 10 months now.

                    i picked up this stand today, but im not sure weather i want to mount it with the little arms or make a plate to go on the side.

                      The cams look okay by the looks of it.
                      This is how i mounted mine when i was working on it.mine had a plate but your arms should do . I had to drill another pin hole on the stand so the engine sits straight because of it weight being more on one side .


                      Take your gearbox out and take off the clutch + flywheel and inspect those.remove timing chain covers and inspect for broken or bent parts. while your there drain your gearbox oil and check for metal filings.

                        Ive got a pretty worked 12v vr6 engine for sale atm with a rebuilt head new tappets valves lifters springs seals, ported and polished, cams and a ported and polished intake manifold, timing chains have been done new gaskets throughout (sump, head gasket and so on)

                        Check the forsale thread, 3k for that and its only got 5000kms on it.

                        Chuck that straight in and you'll be off and running straight away

                        Good shell for $400 mate !

                            ya i saw your engine on there and was pretty tempted but there is no way id be able to scrape that dough together. Im not in too much of a rush but Atm iv got about 6-700 to get this thing going so unless you'd settle for about 1k (with a loan from dad) its out of the picture for now

                              My chains cost $1850, included a hydraulic tensioner.
                              Plus clutch $350~

                              You can do the chains yourself, but I wouldn't even give it a crack. Not that I'm a qualified mechanic but basically do everything myself.

                              Then, if there's stuff wrong internally that's going to skyrocket cost as there is only a handful of people with the correct tools to machine out blocks. Etc.

                                i like to do everything i can myself because im in no rush and ive got the time and most of the skills but not the money.
                                A timing kit from ECS is $266, a head gasket kit with head studs is about $140 and a clutch kit W/ fly wheel from ebay is $160 or from ECS with out fly wheel is about $140.
                                But before i buy anything im going to take a look in the engine just to make sure there isn't anything i cant fix or get fixed for a decent price.
