    • 1.8T IAT is for the secret 1.8T project Im hiding from everyone.

      But not really.

Apparently its worth 2whp and just plugs straight in to the standard plug, you just have to extend the wires to somewhere where it gets cooler air temperature readings and it gives a touch more timing. The standard vr6 one is in the manifold and is a closed one, so soaks heat quickly and gives inaccurate readings. A nice cheap mod so figured I'd try it. Will drive it around a bit for a while with the old one, old intake and stock engine mounts to get a feel for the car again (its been months since Ive driven in) then I shall swap them around and see what I feel.

Im tidying the engine bay up, so going to re wrap all the wires and reroute them in a more hidden manner, taking out useless stuff, have the new coolant bubble, still working on an intake manifold, and that strut brace will just make it a whole lot more special

      • Sweet, had no idea that mod could be used. Love OEM upgrades.

        • OEM Upgrades are great

Anyway an update on the car itself... Last night after work I went out and put the exhaust back together and got the new oil pump/sump ect in, filled it with water, went to fire it up, and ofcourse coolant was pissing out and I couldnt run it long enough to see if its all running ok... Was a little pissed. I had changed the thermostat housing and crackpipe while it was undrivable and obviously stuffed up somewhere. Had a date to get to at 8:30 so called it a night.

Today after work I went to check it out, took the front end off and the thermostat housing and crackpipe out, and put them back again ever so carefully in an attempt to get it right. Still no luck. It seems to be pouring out the sensors (I've read if you take them out of the old housing wrong you break them and they leak, which is what I must have done... :/) so ive just covered those in silicone and will try it again tomorow, dont want to have to wait for new sensors to come :/

Since I had nothing else to do while I'm waiting for the sealant to dry, I put the cold air intake in. Its made by "chrome intakes" in the US and the whole cold air intake kit cost $50 (plus 10 postage to shipito in California) which is actually less then what I sold my second hand K&N panel filter for I figured an intake is one of the parts that should be fine to by on ebay, all it is is a pipe and a filter, why spend $400 on the exact same thing with a fancy brand name?

Wasn't as easy to fit as I was expecting, but after a bit of fiddling it went in, and to my surprise the finish on it is actually very nice. Can't wait to hear it.

          • Very nice! Should make a cover for it though, or avoid puddles!

            • puddles will definitely be avoided. Although some sort of cover is a great idea too. The filte is going to be sitting like 5cm from the ground when the car is back at its ride height :S Think Ill get another cheap pod filter I can throw onto the maf for when its raining so I dont have to worry about it.

              • i've heard about shipito before, but never used them. Glad to hear that it all went smoothly.

Keep up the mods too! woot!

                • Got her running again tonight. Boy does it sound nice!

Its not without problems though ofcourse... Now theres something up with the power steering. Everytime you turn the wheel it makes a god awful noise, and it feels as though there is no power steering. Not sure what that one is :/

                  • I just spent the hour and a half I was supposed to be doing physics reading through this.

This car looks insane (in a good way) I hope she starts treating you nicely. Good luck with it all.

                    • Thanks (:

Put some power steering fluid in this morning (it was empty, not sure how that happened, will sus it out later) and problems = solved (:

It's driving beautifully for the first time in probably 6 months. Quite pleased I forgot how it feels turning heads when your just cruising down the road.

                          • Sounds like a lion being raped by Jesus. It's amazing. Sounds so agressive... hard to tell how much of a difference over the cut box because there was months between driving it with that and the cai, but I don't remember it being this nice.

                            • Did you end up making a cover for the pod filter? Is it an oil type one similiar to K&N?

                              • Haven't made any form of cover yet, haven't had a lot of spare time. Did wash it and give it some wax last night though (hard to get a nice even layer of wax in the dark I must say)

The filter doesn't seem to be oiled, but they say you can wash it with the K&N kits so I'm not sure. For the price I was actually expecting a much cheaper feeling filter, but it seems quite nice. I had planned on getting a K&N filter to put on it, but that might wait a little while now.
