  • Wow last bit of this thread has been depressing if I must say so my self... Seems news spreads fast but a bit of an update:

I got new tyres on Monday, cool. The old ones were worn through the metal bit in a certain place so wasn't keen to drive on those. Fixed a few things up, lowered it back as far as it would again and gave it a bit of a detail... getting it all ready for the show this weekend. Unfortunately last night going for a bit of a drive with the girlfriend, was going through a nice twisty road thats always been a favourite, giving it some at the start as the car was actually driving nicely for the first time probably all year... Then it got wet and so i slowed down to a normal pace, and thank god I did, not even going quickly around one corner I lost control, spun out and hit a mammoth of a fence post. Its a bit blury, i'm not sure exactly what happened. One of the new tyres blew out but im not sure if that was what caused it or if it happened while spinning out. I wouldnt have been doing over 80, I would hate to have seen what would have happened if I were still doing well over 110 like I had been minutes before. Probably wouldn't be here right now.

Anyway the rear hit, and its done a fair bit of damage. Its been assessed by the towing company/smash repairer and they say its likely a write off, but insurance people have to look at it and confirm. I'm quite scared they won't pay out because of how heavily modified it is :/ Shall see in the next day or 2.

At the end of the day, its just a car, i'm not to worried about it. My girlfriend and myself are lucky to have not been seriously injured (although shes got bad whiplash and is having scans and stuff) so im thankfull for that. If the car had spun half a turn more/less and we had hit front or side on, I doubt we would have been so lucky.

anyway, theres never an inappropriate time to through in some pics

almost laying bumper, without the lip. Yeah. I'd say this is about as low as its going to get.

write off or not, im not leaving the vw's just yet...

This is most unfortunate, i'm sorry to see what happened to your car and your gf.
I can't look at those pictures for too long, too much empathy, something you have pride & effort into and it just... I can't look anymore.

              • another one bites the dust

Glad you and your misso are ok though! definitely lucky you hit it backwards.

one rule I go off is no fanging if its wet. dont car how wet it is, I just drive like grandma. When its dry, I'll have some fun though.

Would be awesome to see you throw all the gear into a CL 3 door. not many 3 door vr6's getting around.

                    • Thanks guys, I don't think it's really hit me yet that it could all be gone. It was dry wherre I was giving it a bit of a squirt, I never do it in the wet either (mainly cause i'm use use to driving on bald tyres and so its like ice skating in the wet) but im not sure why, but it was wet a bit further down. It had rained like 6 hours earlier and mustnt have dried there for some reason. Either way I wont make excuses. It looks as though the tyre may have blown which is what sent me spinning off and not lack of grip, but idk, I'm not gonna look for excuses and take the responsibility, there's no point anyway.

Does anyone know anything about buying a wreck back if its written off? My mother asked (its insured under her name as its then only $400 a year instead of like $2500 for me, but i have to pay a 2200 excess now -.-) and they said if its written off itll be sent down to Brisbane and auctioned and that we cant get it, but surely it would make sence if theyd just take a reasonable amount of cash and didnt have to worry about transporting a wrecked car a couple hundred km...

Anyway not sure what the next step will be for me. Another plain cheap 4 door vr6, a mk1 or if I can get the wreck or a 2 door mk3 which I'd eventually swap the vr6 and running gear into are all amongst a few of the more popular possibility's in my mind at the moment. They could actually decide its not a write off and fix it even... Or more likely reject my claim, in which case I guess maybe I'll part it out or something or try and get it back togethor and registered again on the cheap. Idk. We shall see.

What also sucks is I have some baller wheels on there way amongst other things, haha.

                            • that's a massive excess, find out how much they'd be paying out first, some cheapy VR6s around, you don't want to have to pay 2200 if you're getting 4 grand.

                              • we had it insured for an agreed value of 7500, and its such a massive excess cuase im young and well obviously, do this to cars. Such a low premium but massive excess for me. I couldn't afford the ridiculous amounts they wanted to insure me with a decent excess though. Still since we had it insure for a fair amount even with the big excess if its a write off, I should be expecting 5000 and something yeah? I doubt it will be that easy though.

I did grab my subwoofer and amp ect. while waiting for the tow truck to come just incase

And yeah Naffler rings a bell, may ask him0for advice (even though he wanted to paint racing stripes on the mk3 haha)
