  • I looked them up on U.S. Ebay, you can pay an extra $20 for a k&n filter...

    • Yeah I know, If I were to do it again I'd go that route. I was going to measure up what space I had and get the best possible K&N I could fit in there, but in hindsight, it would have been much more logical to go with the K&N from the start.

Its a very very tight fit getting the filter down there, you have to get rid of/remove the charcoal canister, and I had to unbolt something I think was for the Aircon, and bend something else a little to squeez the filter that came with it in, and now my indicator wont quite clip in, so its cable-tied up atm, haha. Also had to shave a bit off the headlight thing to get the pipe in.

The sound though... oh my. so good. very much worth it.

Got the 1.8T IAT sensor in last night. Turns out I got the wrong one... it has a different connecter thing then the one that is a direct fit. Ohwell. Cut it down, filed some stuff and now its in there nice and tight, doesnt seem to be casuing any issues so imma assume its the same as the 1.8T sensor which is a direct fit. Didn't notice much difference, but then again in sure in the hot it'll make more difference, as its been pretty cold anyway. Can feel a slight difference, so worthwhile enough in my opinion

      • Would you mind posting/pm'ing me a link to the air intake kit? My car currently has a pod filter right next to the head, nice warm air! Haha

        • Sure thing.

          One I got: eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d With K&N: 1995-1998 VW Jetta/Corrado VR6 Cold Air Intake + K&N | eBay

          or try http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_...meintakes+cold

hopefully those links work. I know ebay ones dont always like to play nice.

          • This morning I replaced these with their Stage 1 counterparts.

From what I had read I was expecting a lot of vibration at idle, and to my suprise, its hardly even noticable. The peugoet I was driving around while this one was broken would violently shake sometimes when it was cold though so im probably use to it. Still, if they really do break in like people suggest, I think the vibrations will be very small.

Feels nice to drive, gear changes feel smoother

              • Response from the ebay seller in regards to postage costs and fitment requirements....

Hi, the postage to Australia will be around USD $55. Please make sure your engine is same as picture showed and no air conditional system or EGR valve system blocking the hole under the air filter box.If the hole under the factory air filter box have the space for the air filter for 5" x 8" around then it should fit.

I dont see any hassles from whats written above but haven't gone out and stuck my head in the engine bay either....

                • Thats a nice size space too be working with in your shed there! ^ i was about to ask someone about those cold air intakes the other day. the aluminium/steel ones. i think they would be much better than the big plastic pipe.

still loving this thread! keep it up man,

how much better is it owning a car when you have fulltime work

                  • The cold air intake is great Best $60 I've spent on this thing. Well the suitcase removal is up there too... Having an income certainly does help although it gets depressing getting paid every fortnight, then realizing youve spent it all in 2 days and are broke for another week and a half... haha

Got pulled over doing well over twice the limit last night. Thankfully the police weren't out doing traffic stuff and didnt see how fast I was actually going, gave me a breath test took some details, informed me it's not a race track and that I'm going to die and let me off. I'm a lucky lucky boy. If they started looking for defects or had a speed gun I would have been in a world of hurt... haha.

Very lucky mate. I tempted fate before and I didn't come off as well. Let me tell you, it was the longest 6 months of my life. Take it easy!

                        • Yeah its been quite the wake up call. It was a long open road out in the middle of nowhere, the police were actually out there because of a break in. I'm not trying to show off or anything by any means. Had a little bit of an incident on the highway today too which I will admit was due to my stupidity, the abs deciding then would be a good time to fail didn't help but I won't make excuses. Was incredibly lucky to walk away scratch free with no damage even to the car. I think I needed this though, has been a real eye opener. Think I'm going to take my need for speed to the track and keep it safe on the streets.

Your low-shenanigans have actually made me consider another MK3 for a daily. (ridiculous, i know)
