Another random kids pointless VR6 thread

Cheers. I drove it again tonight and wow, it seriously feels so much nicer to drive, a very noticeable gain. Even my brother who thinks im nuts when i say it feels slow with a full tank compared to an empty tank said he could feel it a little, haha.

If I could get my hands on a cheap head and convince dad to invest in an air compressor, id buy a real die grinder (instead of using sandpaper taped to a screw in a dremel lol) and have a crack. Wouldnt get the results a 5 grand head job (sorry, i giggled) would, but i cant justify that money for a few kw, when i could start to piece together a turbo kit for that and make 500kw or something stupid haha

It would be interesting if your got your hand's on a wideband Oxygen Sensor and Meter to see the what the AFR is doing.

wicked results, I love how gung ho you are! haha, awesome.... and don't giggle please, hopefully i'll have the last "giggle" on you my friend...... lol, and that spongey thing is just a dampener so that the throttle doesn't "snap" shut when you let go of the accelerator, I don't think its bad....

oh i was giggling at the concept of paying 5k for a "head job" cuase im an immature bastard haha. trust me id love to build an insane NA vr6 like yours >=]

And yeah, figured that was all that thing did, and I cant feel any difference without it, so im happy to have it gone


Basically finished up the porting of the intake today, but its going to have to wait till I have a spare cent to buy a new bit of aluminium for the back and get someone to weld it up, which at this rate is atleast a few weeks away unless I find a new job haha. I guess i have to polish up the outside of it too, to match the other little bits I polished when doing the old intake manifold, and since you can never have to much aluminum dust in your lungs maybe ill get started on that.


Oh and the like couple week old euro lip has gone to low vw heaven. haha. It was fun while it lasted, RIP buddy.

thanks pete have been through those threads before, along with basically every other one involving 2.9 clone in the title on vortex theres mixed opinions on them, I guess ill see what it does for myself soon enough Im not just cutting it up and banging a new plate on the back, but porting out the inlet thing and trying to get everything as smooth as possible. Have spent a stupid amount of time doing it and still not quite happy yet. haha. if only i had real tools...

I'm doubting that with the stock head I'm going to get much power out of the clone though cuase im sure it flows better then the head already. Mmmmm head work. one day. Might call some places up tomorow and see what they want to charge me to seal this thing back up

coming from you that means alot ray thanks. haha. also read through your little diy for cutting the inner fender liner thing before i went at it, not there was much too it when i think about it half of what ive done is with your diy's haha

I'd love to make the nats, but its looking unlikely unless I find another job really soon. And even then it still might not be possible. Next year im determined to make nats or sedf for sure though if i cant get to anything big this year

i want more lows too, but gonna have to put it up just a tad as it is rubbing insanely bad, and struggles very much to get over a small speed bump i have to drive over daily (as in had to smoke up the front tyres to get over it today hahah) sump is about an inch off the ground. Also, the front is now wound all the way down, no helper springs, no bump stops. lol. did someone say bag time?


i didnt even have a heat gun so just used a hair dryer, didnt crack any paint, and the guards actually look prettyy much perfect. rubs much less then it was before, even though its now an inch lower

i went out for a drive to a few places to try and get some decent snaps while it was super low, took a bunch, and wasnt happy with a single photo, so another on the driveway hahah...



anyway today i decided to put it back up on jackstands and inspect what damage had been done driving it at that height for a few hundred km, and to see where the growing puddle of oil it leaks every night was coming from.

You know your mk3 is low when you cant even get the oem widow maker jack under there without driving it up on planks of wood first...

As i suspected... self notching axle/frame... actualyl already like more then 5mm deep into the frame


also wearing away at the wheel well things, lol

not to mention the inside of the gaurds are now paintless also -.-

oh and ofcourse, lightweight shaved sump/sump plug, leaking around the plug and gasket quite badly


Also in the course of a couple days, i managed to get stuck on a couple speed bumps, give myself a sore back from the "slightly compromised comfort", turned heads as the car scraped along the ground/tyres rubbed/alxes grinded when just going down a straight road, had family members refuse to ride in it again and stalled a few times trying to do maneuvers that required sharp turns/weight of car to be put on tyre via fender. Was fun actually.

But the boring side of me decided it was time to put it up to a sensible, much safer height... so this is how it now sits


much more comfortable, no more funny noises, tyres probably wont be destroyed so quickly and can actually predict what the car will do instead of feeling like you are riding a bull. 2cm makes a world of difference.
