Spent a fair bit of time driving it this weekend. Put 500kms onto it.

Has some quirks which i think i can fix and a lot of rattles that i'll chase with dynamat and silicone but really enjoying it. Reminds me of my youth and my first car (79 cortina) and a mixture of some friends first cars.

I think when i get it back to Adelaide i'm going to do a deep clean and pull the seats etc.. out. The car has a lot of mould in it from being parked on the street for a while before i got my hands on it so i'll probably dump a few cans of glen20 onto every surface imaginable.

An uncle has told me he knows a panelbeater who is out of work who is doing cashies around his area so i'm tempted to get it resprayed as the paint is pretty **** (although i have high standards when it comes to that sort of stuff). Just in the factory black. Another part of me is tempted to respray some minor bits myself and try and touch up some scratches etc..

I've found some rust from unrepaired damage too so i'll be chasing that down and learning to weld i suppose. Been a long time since i did some welding on a van project that i started with some mates but we'll see what happens

SO sometimes the easiest way to find parts for your car is to buy another car.... which is what i did.

I now own a white auto mk2 GTI haha

      1990 Mk2 GTI Auto in white, 120,000kms!!

It has had a little tap in the rear but easily fixable.

I'll probably mine the parts i want and give it to my brother in law to drive as his Mk4 just ate the dust.

So this thread has been neglected for a while.

Have been putting some good kays on her when i'm up visiting my parents (where it lives). 2 visits ago i lost reverse and while i was up there last i had trouble finding 5th too (gearshift linkages). That kit i bought a few pages ago came in handy, but being at my parents and nowhere to work on it i had to send her over to visit Matt at Camden GTI. Its back now and my dad tells me the gearshift is very tight.

I'm heading up there just before xmas for a week so i plan to finish off the stereo and chase down a lot of the rattles. Then working on getting it down to me in Radelaide.

Still hunting a passenger side front flare... anyone.... bueller... haha

              Sorry, sold all of mine.

How stiff is your suspension? When I took out the cheap coilovers in mine and put in softer shocks a lot of the rattles disappeared.

Its fairly firm, but most of the rattles existed before then anyway.

I visited a wrecker with a really...well... destroyed mk2 today hoping for a flare... guess which was the ONLY one missing haha

Sadly not a lot on it that was of any use to me, i did get a power mirror switch for 3 bucks, lets see if it works!

Is that the power mirror switch that's in the drivers door?

                    sure is

my white mk2 has a known working one so once the temperature here in Adelaide drops below 30000 degreees im going to fit it to that car to test if it works

Result! Ours worked too. I'm almost thinking of insuring it...
