        Thank-you all
        I'm very happy with it

A quick question is the sender unit for the engine temperature gauge one of these 2?

I've also come to realise how... dull lights are on high beam.
Driving along with lights on dip isn't that bad but as soon as you hit the high beam, the 10 metres of light directly infront of the car disappears and everything in the distance is dimly iluminated
Yes I will go and read the MK2 headlight wiring upgrade thread.

Turns out the only problem with my A/C system is a $30 mechanical seal found in the front of my compressor
However fitting the seal + labour + regas + a new receiver dryer will total up to around $350.

Can anybody suggest where to get a receiver dryer from in Australia (MK2 GTI)?
I might ring up Camden GTI and check.

Will fix the A/C system once the leaky tranny and engine seals are replaced (along with a gearbox oil change).

Well after a bit of a delay, I now have received my first 'batch' of parts from GAP

Pfffft, phonebook ain't got nothing compared to this bad boy

Parts included a set of axle seals, sender unit for thermostat in the dash, heater core, oil filter flange seal and of course a encyclopedia sized manual

Nice! I've made a bit of a shopping list for GAP, was shipping reasonable?

$92 for an 8 pound package to be delivered within 1 week!

A bit on the expensive side, but as their website says, they only charge what it costs them to ship and nothing more.
Also my package was a bit bulky due to the heater core and manual.

This was with the UPS method of shipping though, which allowed me to track my parcel all the way from New York to Queensland

                              Nice duvet cover!
I used to have a Bentley Manual but i found it to complicated, as i'm a mechanical dunce, but i hear they are great when you know what you are doing.
I've got a Haynes manual on PDF if you want me to email you a copy, its very useful because you can use the find function and its good at explaining the basics.
Good luck with the heatercore. Mine has been sitting in a box for nigh on 2 years, keep putting it off.

I'd prefer a XR8 bedspread but a SS is an ok compromise.

Strangely the second I got the Bentley manual I started peruseing through it and it made sense clear as day.
I admit 800 pages is an eeny weeny bit excessive but I could sit around all day/week/month just reading all that technical info. But thank-you for the Haynes offer.

I have a feeling my willingness to change the old heatercore out is because I'm probably not aware of how big a task it is, so I'll stay blissfully unaware for the time being until I get a free weekend to change it out
