Im thinking this would be the only way to get around it, sort of:
If the seller does not have a V5 registration document or V5C registration certificate, you should register the vehicle in your name by using form V62 'application for a registration certificate'. You can get one by download from the vehicle forms link below or from any Post Office® branch or a DVLA local office. DVLA will then send you a new registration certificate in your name.
This form seems to be what you fill out for it:
If there is any other way, let me know.

I used to work for DVLA and I think there is a form you fill in if the car is for export.
He should ring them up and ask I reckon.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists

It's the last page at the bottom.
You don't need the V5 (it helps) If you get a receipt from the guy saying he sold it to you for $xxx.xx, then you can use that, but i think you also need a stat dec. i can't remember. But yeah, It's not cheap to import a car..
My bill so far, including shipping, insurance customs, quarantine (2x) is about $3.5-4k.

Just got an email and a receipt from him:
hi dan just to let you know i am just in the process of dealing with the dvla over sale and export on v5. get back to you tomorrow with more info, want to make sure all goes smooth mate. cheers dan.
This guys a champion, and yes I understand the cost, I have just enough cash, a credit card for what goes over, but then should be able to pay it back hopefully with the sale of my current car.

Confer with Dotars OFTEN!!! That's my advice. You might get sick of doing it, but it's worth it in the end. Make sure you do everything that both Cargooline and DoTARs say you need, and make multiple copies of everything! (My shipping agents lost a copy... wasant happy!)
Get heaps of pics of the car, especially when it gets loaded into the container (or the car trailer) as they pretty much ripped my front flares off.
GET INSURANCE!!!! Insure it for more than it's worth. I'm glad I did, but I'm being messed around by the shipping company trying to claim back from them! Feckin bar stewards!
Get the car steam cleaned underneath, inside/outside etc in the UK RIGHT before you load the car. This can help with quarantine, and you will have more chance of passing (though it depends on the inspector and whether he/she got any the night before or whatever!)
Make sure that they disconnect the battery. They didn't and mine went flat. Wasn't easy to push the golf onto a ramp and steer at the same time.
IF you are putting parts in the Golf, Make sure they are steamed as well, or at least brand new and boxed/bagged. They get a bit pedantic on car parts.
Make sure you get as much info on the car as possible, ie VIN/Engine numbers along with the originals sent out to you. Not sure if they need the copies verified, but DOtARS need any passport copies certified by JP or similar (teacher etc etc.)
Pray the container doesn't fall off the ship!!!
Other than that, be patient. Mine took 28 days to get to sydney (according to them, 38 actual) and then spent another month in quarantine/customs before being released to me.

Well i will be most likely going with RORO to save some cash. Im aware of the documents needed to send of with the carrier, I have received a bill of sale and states the VIN and Rego number, just need to get the rego papers and a passport (going to USA later anyway) and it should all slowly work out.
I will be insuring it and hopefully somehow i can get it washed under before it goes but i dont see that happening (dont want to push my luck).
Also i dont think the DOTAR need a copy of the passport, just customs, all though im probably wrong.
Will be sending the payment in a day or two, then ill go from there.
Just need to take it one stage at a time

Ok, just waiting on the details to pay for the car, and will also be applying for the passport and getting wacked with the $80 fine so the waiting comes down from 6 weeks to 10 days.
I will be sending the VIA off in the next couple of days once I've transfer the funds, will be applying by email so should be a smoother process.
Also I've sent an email to CargoOnline just to confirm the details.
In the VIA form where it states "Part 2 - nominate an Agent" is this where i would fill out CargoOnline's details.

And the rallye's would be damn fine, you could really smock a few commondores. You could always go over there and own it for 12 months.
But the weather may put you off.
Also he was going to put the hydraulic gearbox in but didn't get around to doing it. Although I wont be getting it brought over due to RORO, would it be a worthwhile conversion or will the 16v box do.
Can't wait to make that car scream, anyone is welcome to take a look, ride, drive. After all thats what these cars are for, to be enjoyed.

Awesome & inspiring work sir. Keep the updates coming.
I am seriously thinking about finding a MK1 Jetta or MK2 Jetta Coupe to bring over.
I think you have sewn a lot of seeds in a lot of heads.

Exactly, a 1989 Rallye, as far as i know they are the first ones, and the import laws are for pre '89 cars.
Did you get to one of the last pages and see the VW motorsport one? Only 10000 pounds!!
EDIT, actually to save you the search, check this out, 20VG60!! http://www.edition38.com/forums/inde...&#entry2419008
I actually found it on another forum, (dubforce.net) and the guy had decided to keep it.
