Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I don't think you mentioned it (perhaps I didn't read thoroughly enough)
But do you plan on flushing and chaning the coolant over to G12?

    Enjoy

    • well it has taken me about an hour Dan but I have read your thread from start to finish. I am looking at bringing in a mk1 GTI as there is nothing forsale here. Few questions.

      Would you do it again?

What was the total cost of bringing the car in ex the cost of buying the car? So shipping, insurance, reg and engineers cet.

What did you need to do in the end for the engineers cet? did you need to put side bars in? 3rd rear light? etc

      Many thanks

      • only just stumbled on this thread. i've got a 1981 Mk1 GTi that came over from the UK in 2004, got all the import paperwork the previous owner filled out if you want to have a nosey over it some time. might be of use, might not, but the offer's there.
There is no Golf in my life. This is unacceptable...

        • Would definitely do it again but would need to be in the money and to get something really rare to be worth it.

Haven't gone over all the details but was just under 6k for all the shipping and tax, that's the boner

Engineering took ages due to too loud and too low, running rich too so took a bit of magic to get it right. In Canada at the moment but can't wait to get back and hammer it

Saw loads of mk2 golfs and jettas over here, they love em

If you need any help don't hesitate to ask. Be glad too

We did a dodgy on the bars, so skipped that. Don't need a 3rd brake light but got one from the u.s as. Don't want a rear bender
