Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Walshydub, where are you posting from ? The UK or Australia ? Have you got Australian Residency or Citizenship ?

Mine is a '92 model so i had to of owned it for a year before import approval was granted, with a pre '89 model you'll still need approval but you can buy one and apply staight away for approval.

Mine is on Coilovers and had 16" RS on it at the time, wasn't an issue really, the headlights were too low for Australlian Design Rules (ADR's) so it was raised to pass then lowered when i got home. You should be alright with a Mk2.
You'll have to have child seat anchor points put in, and make sure you get one with no rust, they are strict on rust. You may have to have a 3rd brake light put in also, but i got away with that one.
Which city are you going to ship the car to ?
I am over here in Oz on a Defacto-residency.

If i was gonna go through with it i would be shipping from london to Brisbane. My brother in law over in the UK is a VW Tech so i would get him to find me a decent example with no rust etc. I reckon getting a standard mint car is the best option and then load it up with the parts i wanted to fit.

Looking at the abundance of golfs in NZ it would be a good place to find parts.

That was broken mid year, The shell came down to london and interior stayed up north, Carbon bits re appeared on Steve denton LHD 4wd G60, the only thing that I believe he still has is the engine and gbox with everything you need to install, this I know because he offered it to me for £4k 3 months ago, just the chrome work would pay for the engine

you can import a car if its on the sevs list.
i am importing a lancia delta evo 2 giallo from japan.
the lancia is on the sevs list.

all you need is a work shop license to import them.

It costs 10k to become the approved workshop. Do it for Corrados if you are gonna. I`ll have one.

How many of us would it take to put our hands up for a Corrado for it to make it viable for someone to go for the approval?

                      I'd have one also.

trouble is there tends to be a big difference between who'll put their hand up and who will put their money down

Yeah lets not hijack this thread, there is one in the Corrado section about this.

Basically if 10 people have cars ready to travel and give me a deposit of $1000 I can get the workshop RAWS approved, to comply one type of car on the SEVS list.

Matt, not wanting for this to go too far into Corrado talk, but Mark Hammond and Brian Patterson have already tried and failed, that is the reason its on SEVS list. Speak to Mark about it mate.

LOL !! One way around it is to get a 1988 model from Germany, then convert it RHD. Lots of work, but possible, Jay converted his pretty quickly.
