Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I'm old....

I just realized... I love my damn car. I've owned it for over 30 years. Damn....I'm old... old people say that kind of thing, right?!!?! 48 and wish I looked as good as my car..... Bet you young guys have never seen actual performance Catalogs. Here is what they look like. You would have to write a letter with a stamp and ask for one. Weeks later they would mail you one. Post office, It's what we used before the internet. We had to actually go to the junk yard with the tape measure and try to swap stuff over. We could not look it up on the internet instantly. Where did I find that kind of time?

30 Years! Congrats Thomas! I doubt there'll be too many original Mk6 and 7 GTI owners 30 years from now and the websites we click on will all be long gone in 5 years... How things change!

I will never sell it. When it is time to pass the torch I will give it away to the right person.

I give Stuff Away when I could. I owned a automotive repair shop and often I came across stuff people might want. I gave away a few cars here and I've never had to work so hard to give cars away!

I think the Rabbit GTI was a USA only thing. I brought it with me when I moved here from the United States.

                  Oh I remember the catalogues
I may have a TSR catalogue from the early nineties, I found it in a pile of stuff about 5 years ago ... can't remember if I threw it or not
Things are so easy now, and the prices back then were obscene (because there were very few people who did it - though I would argue they did it better)

They were only called Rabbits in USA.

                    More pictures please.

When did you bring it over?

I can not get any photos uploaded right now. My computer has just realized that I live in Australia. I'm busy making a VPN so I can access all of my American stuff like Prodemand, Apple (cheaper), Netflix (more stuff) etc. As soon as i get to my database I will get some photos. For some reason when I copy a URL from Photobucket it just says invalid URL. Ugh...

Ugh.... can I delete a photo I uploaded by accident?

I brought the vehicle over recently. My wife is from Sydney and after 18 years in the USA she wanted to come home.

Check out the size of those tailights. There's no way you're going to think this is someone else's Golf from behind.

                              Looks very well looked after.

Please post some pictures of the Callaway conversion when you can.
