So today I thought I'd change the thermo as the one in it was stuck open and temp dropped as soon as I hit the road. Accidentally snapped a bolt when removed the housing haha, but luckily I had a spare 1.8 adz motor kicking about and used that! Big hassle. Also took me a while to fully bleed the air but it's all done and running good. However, the heater core doesn't seam to be blowing hot air, one pipe hot other is not. Must be blocked.

Also carby and engine is starting to idle a bit rougher, and I'm suspecting piston slap/knock is happening. Anyway, took the car to the airport lookout last night, and half the boys jumped in, haha couldn't be happier with the cabby, puts a huge smile on my face driving it!

So just got sick of the lack of power with the motor, and the golf actually died a few ks from home (Carburettor stuff I suspect) just sort of jumped into a motor swap. Also getting the car ready for GAD in Canberra so it can actually reach 100 kmh haha. Got the motor out in an hour swapped all the bits and had the motor back in another 1.5 hours. For the first time in my engine swaps I've done it in a garage lol!

Clutch was still good so retained that. Also will have to work out a fuel pump tomorrow. Sorry for late night crappy iPhone pic. Will get some more tomorrow with engine in

Do it, you won't look back. Intersections where you had to go back to 2nd gear (4 speed box) can be taken easily in 3rd and hills are heaps of fun instead of being something that slow you down.

2.0 upgrade in a MK1 would let you tow trucks up hills.

                Cheers

                Paul

                  Already done it Paul!

Finished everything today, engine is in, custom short shifter, all plumbing, drive shafts, mounts everything. I had to run an external pump which I don't have. Was going to use the one from my green cabby - internal 'transfer pump' with the second larger one outside, but for thst I would need a regulator which I forgot I needed (thanks mr. Kostrevski). I just threw some petrol in the carb to see if I got the tdc timing right, and she stuttered and fired before I shut it down.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Went down to the do some fuel pump hunting, Jesus they are expensive. Thanks to knowing people in the right places I got this 4-7 psi external pump for a whopping $57! All sorts of discounts were thrown in hahaha.

And here is a really late arvo dodgy pic to show my ghetto bracket. Holds it firm! Just looks funny thsts all. Will wire it up tomorrow and hope for the best. Everything else I done.

C'mon, it's gone 1pm and you still haven't let us know if it's running or how well.

Or are you still taking it for a spin and don't want to drive home?

Hahaha I actually slept in til 1 Paul!

Well after finding all the timing marks and setting tdc I got it started. Running very laggy. Idles fine, bit accelerates very slowly. It will backfire a few times and crackles a lot. Exhaust pressure out the back of the muffler is pretty strong too, which is good right?

But yeah it's just some sort of idling or tuning. Is there anyone in melb who can tune it and get it perfect so I don't have to worry about it anymore? Jetting, timing etc. how are volkscare with things like this.

Also my custom short shifter is amazing.

                        That is all.

                        George.

Sounds like the timing might be retarded. Try advancing it slowly as far as you can until it starts to idle rough then turn it back a little bit. TDC is just a starting point, it doesn't have to be permanently set there.

And get up at a decent hour and clean your room and take the garbage out.

Well it did idle at 800 at which it was normally higher. Will give it a go tomorrow and see if it helps. I'm pretty sure it is way retarded.

Hahahaha Starting to sound like my mum for a Minute :p what kind of genitals are attached down there Paul?

Paul you'll be please to hear, the timing has been advanced and it runs muuuch better. Got bored with a few friends and went cursing and did some chap laps and city driving to get some food, epic cruise was epic. Engine is so much better, more torque and can finally take passengers hahaha. Carby however needs a tune, holds idle badly and has fuel surge heaps. Will look for some specialists. Could do with a wheel alignment too

Alic from yesterday just after doing the timing. Got a rear bar on the way and will try get it a bit nicer with the coming weeks! Also needs a wash lol
