Great tip, thanks.
Just don't do it in the middle of winter - would take ages for the rubber to adjust to it's new shape.1978 MK1 2.0 16v http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...-46488-70.html

It's time I let you in on a secret of mine. My little bunny is getting a new heart some time in the next couple of months. I stumbled upon a crossflow, external water pump block know as an AFT out of a 99 Cordoba late last year, and have slowly been putting parts together to get this thing ready. I'm almost ready for the big day, so I thought you should all informed of the journey so far.A little dirty. Time for a bath
And a home botch port job
Partner her with a 280 hydro Cat Cam, and some Autotech HD valve springs
Add on a Rowland manifold (home painted)
Extractors
Just time to sort out the pair of Dellorto DHLA 40s going on it.
Still have to organize distributor and associated ignition, alternator to fit under the carbs, offset radiator and a couple of other bits and bobs before the conversion can go ahead.
This is an exciting time for my bunny...Last edited by Browneye; 08-02-2015, 08:34 AM.77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling

It's a 1.6 with the 81mm bore that all the 1.8s came with. So it's very simple to stroke out. I'm leaving it as a 1.6 however, due to short stroke, it will love to rev

It's a factory head for the block. No modification required. It's a shame how rare they are in Australia, but it does give me some ner ner value haha

It's a 99 seat cordoba engine. They did come in mk3 golfs also, but never in Australia. Code is AFT77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling

I picked the whole lot up from Jolly's in dandenong one day when they had the Cordoba there. It was luck really. Cost me just shy of 300 including flywheel, clutch, intake manifold and distributor. Just keep an eye on their website for a Seat, and hopefully the right one shows up. They're also a good source for an ADZ, which is a great motor to have in a mk1
As far as I know, this engine has never been put into a mk1. Although I would love to be proven wrong haha77 Mk1 GLS 2 door - That sinking feeling
