Fitting up the Cams tonight if i get a chance, time to see how good the buckets i machined up are. Had to convert to mech lifters as hyd will never keep up with 9000rpm. Gotta see how the cam timing looks considering the massive duration it is going to be running

Will you need to clearance the head? I've seen that some of the bigger CAT cams etc need clearance cut into the head to clear the lobe..

well after a long break finally got back into the project. Finally have the head close to finished (just need to blank the dizzy hole). I think the pictures speak louder than words so pretty much just check out the goodness contained below. The valves are at the limits of what this head can take machining wise, the valve train is titanium everything and the hydraulic has been converted to solid buckets custom machined to match the lift so 8500 plus will not be an issue. The cams are completely custom machined from new blanks (not regrinds) the injector ports have been welded up and ground back and the ports have been stretched to the absolute maximum. Enjoy

Ports look good, dude.. Very impressed.
I thought you said you were going to bigger valves though?Hahaha.
That's a sweet looking head man, good stuff.
I notice you're using PTFE assembly lube? Its top stuff. Excellent if you're going to assemble and not start the engine for a while, too (like me..).
Way to go, dude. Me likey.

yeah i kinda chickened out on the valves hey but for some silly reason i decided that i may actually need a spark plug in there somewhere, now just need to figure out why. Seriously though you just cannot fit anything bigger in here. the flows that came back were really promising for very very good Hp77 Golf tarmac rally

I'm sure that will be plenty big enough, mate!
Exhaust side especially, thanks to the angle, the bigger you go to a point you don't get as much benefit because of the bore shrouding... Inlets are damn big, though.

Looks like a damn good job - very impressed actually! Don't worry too much about the valves. You saved a good chunk of money by not doing it, and it keeps some torque down low as well, which is handy if you don't want to spend a fortune on better gearing, huge cams etc.
This's going to be a great car. You're doing a proper jobLast edited by Valver.; 20-01-2011, 07:42 PM.

Great work, wish I was closer to motor building, think I'll have to go o/s for the headwork too.

Yeah very big thank you very much to Ric for the porting job, he is a master at this thing and does it porperly, not cheap but it's the expierence and results that your paying for (and then customs rapes you after!). As for the valves I put the biggest possible valves in the thing using the standard combustion chamber plus a little without going way stupid on custom machining and then the same again on head gaskets and block. The Cams are full custom jobs but the details will remain a little on the quiet side until it proves itself on the dyno and makes good torque. She's a slow old process indeed but the key to this motor is do absolutely everything that needs doing in order to exact the best reliability, lightest weight and best power possible whilst still remaining a hairs width inside CAMS/FIA Classic tarmac homolgation regulations. It would be way easier to bang a turbo on the thing but then it can be raced ...........nowhere! The goal is to get close to the 250 hp as the head will flow much more than that.Last edited by Volksee77; 20-01-2011, 09:17 PM.77 Golf tarmac rally
