  • 8 SPEAKERS !?!?! haha, are we talking 6 inch and 6x9 speakers only, or the whole package including subs as well? Remember that if you do fibreglass, sometimes it becomes really heavy, and from my experience at school is very hard to calculate the exact volume if you want to be extremely accurate.

But i like where this is heading, sound system is a must mate!!

It will be 3 pairs of splits, 1 pair of coaxials, the monster in the boot, 3 amps and a second battery. Im not to worried about the volume of the enclosure for the speakers as its a bit harder to work out and the speakers arnt $1000+ units.

      • I finally put it on the ground and drove it. It pulls really well but:
        - still need to change the gasket for the carbie
        - brakes don't work, air in the lines
        - gears need to be aligned...again, they are all over the place at different times
        - exhaust it waaaaay to loud inside and out and the extractors are touching the car so it vibrates the cabin.

I also bought 4 pairs of matching speakers and finished cleaning up the engine bay, all it needs is a polish.

        Ill have pics tomorrow.

                        • 18days till DOVW, which means ive got about 6 days free to get it ready for the show.
                          I gota:
                          - get it to idle
                          - align the gears
                          - flush the motor oil
                          - bleed the brakes
                          - get a wheel alignment
                          - cut and polish the car and engine bay
                          - refurbish a bunch of plastic trims
                          - re-skin, dynamat and refit the stereo

Haven't had time to do much, worked 6 straight days last week and on my day off it rains on a off all day. I managed to do a bit of shopping, pull out the stereo, dynamat the boot and start working on re-skinning the sub box. I ordered 8mm red spark plug leads (25kw gain easy) specifically suited to the mk1 and some other dress up bits. I received crystal clear indicators today which i was told will fit but don't so that ebay seller can eat a ****.

Woot pics. Not great pics but i want to document what Ive done.

Cleaned up the engine bay a bit more but def needs a polish. Its so hard to hide all the wires and cables.

Back on the ground, i forgot how much i like it.

The black stuff is sound and heat insulator.

This is how super high it sits with the stereo out, i can fit my hand in the wheel gap

All this is going on the box and the boot, you'll have to wait and see how it tunes out.

The 4 pairs of splits. Response Precision 6.5" PMI Kevlar with ribbon tweeters. I had to order them from NSW. When they came out they retailed for about $350, wicked speakers imo, its really a shame they don't make them anymore.

Now if you think 'yeah whatever not a big name brand, jaycar bull **** cant be that good'.
Here is what you get when you pay for the brand name on the box, these are JL Audio 6" splits that retailed for over $350. JL imo are one of the worst culprits for overcharging because of brand name. Yes that's rust on the crossover and they are really flimsy, the tweeter isn't great and the overall construction is cheap and poor.

                              • Agreed. Sometimes, paying more for a brand name product will net you nothing more than an ordinary product, the satisfaction that you own the brand name product, and a much lighter wallet. (Not a blanket rule though, and this can become a very heated debate, so I'll leave it there!)

Love your Mk1 so far, it's looking real neat. Any plans to get quad headlights?
