should you have realised if it had weber on the side of it or not earlier?
The carbie on the car now is a webber off a FIAT. The carbie i bought off dom was suposta be a 32/36 webber, i got that and a passat mani. When i got it, it went straight in to a box for storage, i just trusted he knew what he was talking about. I only had a good look at it today and it turns out i got ****ed.
Are you just British and in Australia. Or are you in the UK?
Because I like the list you have put up of all the things you have done to the car and was wondering if you are in Australia can you please tell me where you got all your mechanical stuff like: suspension, motor(or parts) etc.
A bit of progress but no pics because my camera is broken.
So far ive adjusted the clutch cable but still have to put a stopper on the pedal so it doesnt sit so high, there is nothing to directly fit a stoper on to so its going to be a head ****. The heat shield that goes under the car is back on and ive also made a heat sheild for between the extractors and the steering rack boot.
I have also sorted out the linkages and alignment. All the gears do go in, or atleast thats how it looks. Reverse and 5th seem to be in place although the stick is very stiff through all the gears, i think i know why but i wont be able to fix it untill i can find another mk1 to pull apart. Also adjusted and modified the accelarator pedal so it all works properly. I tryed to adjust toe on the drive side wheel as its turned in way to much but i ended up brakeing a spaner, is there a trick to it?
All these little things towards the end seem to be the hardest. I spent alot of the time trying to get it to idel normaly, i had my neighbour take a look at it but we didnt realy get every far. We got it to stop over fueling but we cant get it to idel under 1500-2000. The noise out of the exhaust also doesnt sound right, it sounds awsome like a race car, but i dunno if thats the sound it should be making. Constantly crackling and poping.
Im starting to get pissed off with it, i realy dunno why i bother, at the end of the day it just a shiz box mk1 anyway.

Thanks
Im in melbourne mate.
I got the suspension from Evorobin on the forum but i dunno if he does them anymore, you can also get it off ebay.
When i got the car it came with a white rusty 4door which had that motor and gearbox in it. Alot of the new replacement parts came from German Auto Parts. The little bits and bobs came from wreckers, or mates or it was just stuff i had just collected and had in the garage. There realy insnt to much on the car that is hard to get or that isnt standard.
re" the engine popping and farting, check the timing, check it again, and then triple check it. get that sorted then fiddle with the carb, then the timing then the carb etc. make sure your plugs are good, and the points gap etc are good. this was just covered recently by pete jones in another thread, sounds like you have a little miss or something. HTH bro.
oh and i cable tied an old nut to the top of the clutch pedal (about the pivot point) that got the clutch to sit lower

Cheers mate.
There isnt much adjustment on the carbie, ive got an idel screw which just adjusts the possition of the throttle at rest and a fuel screw which just adds more fuel when you unscrew it. Timing was done by the book but after fiddling with it the noise out of the exhaust just got more agressive.. No matter what we try we cant get the idel under 1500-2000, if we get it to sit at less than 1500 give it one rev and the car will clonk out when the revs drop back down.
Update, sorry no pics because my camera isnt working.
Got a 32/36 carbie off Marty and im asured it is in good working order. Marty, the legend, also marked off all the important bits on it so i dont stuff it up.
I also cleaned the interior, fitted the volt meter and switches and fix a few other bits and bobs. So the interior is done.
Hopefully I can put the carby in on Sunday and get the motor running properly and take it for a test drive. Fingers crossed everything is fine in that department.
If all goes well under the hood then all that is left is a wheel alignment and cut n polish.
