been a full on week as amongst other things I have registered and payed for both supersprint and show and shine, organised my club vw membership and cams license.

now all i need is some number plates lol.

        • I don't think that this event requires a harness that is 'current', as it is only a Level 2 Speed.

          • That style of harness doesn't have an expiry date. Scrutineers will check condition and ADR compliance on that one.

Generally speaking anything with the passenger car type of buckle doesn't expire.

When the seat goes in make sure it doesn't rattle. Even with brand new nylon guides on the back feet there can be some slop.

In my MK1 I adjust the seat position wise and then use strips of aluminium the width of the rail to shim the nylon guides and get everything nice and tight.

The shims just slide in under the runners and I bend them up on either side to keep them in place.

You can shim out any slop in the front mount too by sliding a piece of aluminium in on top of the rail. Securing that is a little harder, I bent a tab down off it and used the M6 bolt at the front to keep it there.

I made that seat base back in 1998 http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f55/...-13857-11.html

It's fair to say I somewhat over-engineered it. It's a bit heavier than it needs to be although the whole seat and base still only weighs 12kg.

I didn't have a MIG welder back then, all those welds were done the old fashioned way with oxy-acetylene.

Good to see it getting used again. All the best at the Nationals!

thanks Pete, I was actually looking at it yesterday and thinking how nicely put together it was. Once I put it in, I will have a look how it sits in terms of height and rigidity and maybe look at making up those shims for the tracks and adjusting the height with some spaces...

so your saying I can't use the harness?...would I be wasting my time to install it? or if it is in good condition and ADR compliant I will be ok?

              Thanks.

              • Harness is fine. That style is good for club level events. Should always pass scurineering as there's no expiry on it.

                • cool thanks...

went to put the seat in today, i can see it will all work but the courier must of handled it roughly because one of the slides has been bent and plastic glide broken, so I need to source a new glide, I almost straightened out the slide/plate back to how it was but will make it a bit better tomorrow...

                  • Gary Collis at Wolfsburg Automotive has brand new glides for those. He had them at the swap meet today. If I've had realised I would have picked some up for you. He's got the front ones too.

You can always pull one of the glides off your existing seat at a pinch.
