Yea rope trick is the way to go, no glue. Just gotta makes sure it's all sealed in. Ie the inside should all have the rubber over the edge, and on the outside, it should all be sitting flush.
Did it previously have silicone on the seal? One thing I'm thinking, Is if it's had repairs to the pillars in the past, depending on the quality of the work, they may not have been repaired to 100% factory shape. This is a big MAYBE though. Get ya hose out and see if you can see leaks into the cabin. (soap bubbles always make finding various air leaks easier to find.)
It should sit in there pretty snuggly though. If you seal is shagged (and I mean SHAGGED) that could cause some poor fitment too I guess.
