Car starts perfectly when cold, even after 1-2 weeks sitting idle. But if I go for a drive of 15 minutes or more and stop the car it generally won't start again for around 30 minutes, give or take.
Love to know where you got the GTI instrument panel.
My kjet has a hot starting issue as well, so if you find a good Kjet person in Canberra, let me know. It must be too rich after sitting though, which suggests a dribbling injector or maybe the cold start valve operating when the engine is still warm. Pull the wire off the cold start valve and see if that helps. If so, then the thermo switch that operates it may be faulty, or it could still be dribbling injectors.
I found the instrument cluster via one of the UK forums. Sadly it came from a car that had just been written off. It was a 1981 UK-spec GTI that had been rear-ended. I dare say if the car was in Australia I would have been on it like a vulture picking at the carcass!
I think you're right that the car is running too rich, fuel consumption is pretty crap for a start (and I don't think it's all my fault, haha), but I've tried removing the 5th injector and it made no difference.
The guys at Dyno Tune are okay (I think they are in Mitchell now) and Grant there knows old school Bosch stuff. I probably need to speak to him again, or I have also been thinking of seeing if Michael at CVWC in Tuggeranong can help.

hey mate if you dont mind me asking, how much you roughly paying for a dyno tune? i've been getting some pretty expensive qoutes...$500 upwards? is that right, i would of thought it was a bit much
Car is looking good bud, For an 80' model the coolant temp guage should have the red LED overtemp light in the centre of the scale...
If you want more details about the hot pulse relay LMK, Loon should have the appropriate wiring set up on the 93 cabrio he is currently wrecking by all accounts.
