  • Far out, those little 1.6's make some decent power!

    • The wheel looks great. What's next on the list? Original radio? That brochure is interesting as well. Funny they refer to it as a GTi and not a GTI.

The 1.6 is actually a far nicer engine than the later 1.8. Revs better and revs smoother

        • Great example Liam. The steering wheel really makes the interior and the LMs look fantastic.

Agree about the 1600s, shame so many have been replaced

They were on a 4-door i missed out on on ebay., had a good look at one of them all over and didn't find a single marking.

            Anyway, fit the RM's already!!!
The Wheels are the orignal BBS Wheels.
Made by Mahle, I remember these on heaps of GTIs in the 80s.
Those particular rims came to me on a Mk1 I bought back in the day, from QLD I think. I had em sitting around for years before they found a home on Liams car. They seemed to suit it and acelleration is great as they are only 13s, but 205s, so sticky as.
I`ll be happy to take them back whenever you are tired of em Liam.
Does it acellerate as well with the bigger rims???
That motor was a ripper, it simply had a skimmed head and some rings, hard to get, but same as TS passat if I remember and a quick hone. It was so light and nible and went like a mad thing. I actually revved the needle right around the revcounter and into the temp gauge a couple of times. The Heron motor is a peach, great fun to drive.

So I gave it a volt gauge, which looks like it might end up raising some new questions, haha.

                Thanks mate.

The wheels are actually RM012s, see all the stamping below.

Jace, a few pages back there are close up pics of the old 13" wheels which shows the MAHLE stamping too.

Matt, the 13s are sitting in the garage, but I think I might refurb them and keep them as a second set.

                          • After a couple of years of planning and delays, most unforseen, we've just started renos on our house, which means most weekends are currently taken up with house stuff of some sort or another.

...if anyone has, or knows, where I can find some as-new-as-possible-looking switches to go with my spotless new dash clocks please let me know.

Oh, and if you have any theories on how to fix a hot starting issue, don't hold back.
