Email Notifications Failing (mostly Telstra)
Hello everyone. Seems there is an issue with Telstra (possible others) blocking email from our server. If you are trying to sign up I would suggest a different email if possible. If you're trying to reset your password and it fails please use the Contact Us page:
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.
If you delete the EGR the ECU is going to throw an error due to O2 levels being too high, and the EGT's and emissions will skyrocket. Melted turbo is the main problem, and I'm only deleting mine in conjunction with lots of breathing mods, intercooler mods and mainly water meth injection. It's so far from simple I am still looking for the solution tune wise.

Just two weeks ago I cleaned ours (1.9 TDI) Only cleaned the throttle body (is that what its called?) most diesels don't have one, and the EGR . Was going to post some photos, they look very similar to Poyta's anyway -pretty bad, blockage must have reduced diameter of inlet by 30%, car has done 62000ks . Didnt take off the manifold as only had a couple of hours to do it. Easy to clean with caustic cleaner toothbrush and water pressure. Think car has improved mileage, steady trip to the hills and back of 40ks showed 3.7 However seems to have gone back to normal now.
Greg said "If you delete the EGR ......and the EGT's and emissions will skyrocket." On ours the EGR port was partially blocked yet it still ran the same. The port is fairly small compared to the inlet. I'm wondering just what real detriment will be caused to a 1.9 which is not driven to the max except for a few seconds once a week or less, if the EGR flow was reduced.
It's your turbo mate, but I'm measuring dangerous EGT's stock in my GT, and EGR is all about lowering combustion temps to lower NOX emissions. I know in the 1.9 you can drop the EGR with Vag Com, do a search on TDI club for details. Not so lucky with the 2.0, and I am hoping Parso Rex can code mine out for me. There are EGR delete tunes available in the UK. Remember you need to factor in extra cooling, and that's both for the turbo's health AND those nasty NOX emissions. In the least you'd be mad to do so without a decent EGT gauge.

Using good fuel additive could help. Since you have the DPF try Wynns Diesel Power 3, Diesel Clean 3. Wynn's Belgium bvba
The Diesel Power 3 looks very promising on the paper, I will pick up the box next week and give it a go.
I went to see the Wynn's people at Melsrose Pk. today and of course they didn't have it and it won't be coming to Australia. Instead, I was offered something else, which I politely refused, since it was only diesel purge + ordinary tank additive (you can buy LiquiMoly for fraction of the cost).
I expected a bit more knowhow from the people running the Wynn's warehouse in SA.
Thanks Greg, you are getting high EGtemps but then you do have a GT and probably drive it for a bit of fun. Ours is commuter transport only in speed limited areas in the main. If it were on high boost for more than 20 seconds you'd be on the brakes or looking for the radar car. Think I'll wait until someone else tries it and in the meantime wait a couple more years and do another clean.
Yep, to be fair that was a max effort up a very steep hill and into naughty speeds out in the sticks. I see nothing like that day to day, but you need only hit "too hot" for a brief period and things melt. It's a risk, not a rule.

Finally I cleaned my EGR bits. It's been two years (35K km) since I had both valve and flap section replaced. The flap motor wasn't too bad and it took me less than an hour to clean, but the valve again was very dirty. So spent three cans of degreaser and less than 4 hours all together. I didn't go for manifold part. Now I feel very happy as perhaps saved another $1,5K. For the last two years I used only BP diesel mostly from two stations and it was still very dirty, but this time the soot wasn't "cooked" it was rather slightly oily, perhaps it's due to additives, not sure.
..and the only problem is an easy place to mount it in the TDI with the stock airbox, there's not much easily accessable room!
I have almost all the other parts of the puzzle sorted, but it may end up having to go beneath the airbox which isn't a simple bolt on kit for your average joe.
I realise this is taking a while, but I can confirm there are several test pilots out there now with various cars and catch cans, and all manner of bracket prototypes!

Well, i finaly took the plunge with 2005 Golf TDi. Its got 131,000k on it so im guessing it may need the intake cleaning! If i was to be lazy, who would you say is best to take it to to get poyta's cleaning job done? The vehicle inspection guy i used before buying the car said he'd done a decarbonisation and inject clean recently and would charge $400, which is a bit steep!
