Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

One of the guys at work owns an IS-F and my brother in law had an IS350 F-Sport. Nice cars. Yours sounds fantastic with the X-Force exhaust system.
My humble apologies to Dutch for hijacking the thread. For what it's worth, I like all the options on your extended short list. It's a shame the new RS300 isn't as rewarding to drive as the older RS275, RS265. A decent RS275 Trophy with all the upgrades is so much fun and very easy to drive on the limit.Last edited by Whatsisname; 07-05-2019, 05:35 PM.Current: 2013 Candy White Scirocco R (Stage 3+ 272.2kW @ wheels) 2008 Yellow MK5 GTI Pirelli (Stage 1 custom tune 191.1kW @ wheels vs. 143.3kW dead stock) 1994 R33 Skyline (627kW @ wheels)

Haha no apologies needed - I hijacked tigger73's old Roc thread originally.
Mrs Dutch is not sold on the Mustang, I'm still trying to find out why - as I certainly am. Although as an old GM guy I am still tempted by a bogan 'Dore on the basis I don't give a stuff what others think anymore, I am just there to enjoy the drive and eight cylinders.
Can't say I have totally ruled out the IS-F either - just a lot less to choose from.
Speaking to some dealers on both an RS5 and M3 as well.
And a couple of ED40s.
I do dig the look of the new Renaults - they've nailed what a car should look like with some Euro aggression, unlike say a certain H car.
Yep, still the weirdest shop list ever.

The early cars 2015 up to mid 2016 has the Sync 2 radio system which is clunky to use and slow. From mid 2016 onwards Sync 3 came out (still current today) and is actually pretty good.
The biggest issue is that due to the RHD build the headers are different to the LHD cars, which means you cannot simply buy headers (and there is 30kw to be found in good headers) from the USA. What this also means is that the oil cooler (oil/water cooler) sits close to the RH header and in the early models 2015 to mid 2016, this lead to failures of the welds leading to burst coolers, leading shortly thereafter to total engine failure. From late 2016 onwards upgraded oil coolers were fitted by the factory and is available a free refit to older cars (like a recall but quietly). Aftermarket oil cooler solutions are available that totally removes this as an issue and I plan to fit 1 soon even though I have a Feb 2017 build (on my son's birthday actually) car.
So if you are shopping early cars, ask if the cooler has been replaced (or even the engine, which is done under warranty no questions asked), otherwise look at cars built from about Oct 2016 onwards.
It looks like the Mustangs are holding their value much better than the Golf R secondhand. For cars that cost the same new (more or less) the difference 2nd hand looks like at least $10,000 on average.
I knew I'd read there was one potentially 'terminal' issue on the early cars but also that Ford were generally happy to come to the party to rectify the issue.
I'm still keen to keep it on the list.
As for Golf R resale, no arguments from me - the VW stuff generally has horrible resale unless you get lucky with a buyer or hold really long term.. but that's the price I am willing to pay to avoid driving a Fridge.

But I agree even if they were bad for resale I'd rather drive a car that I like for 3-5 years.

Not that I've owned a Fridge before. But I've heard good things about their resale.
That does remind me I hadn't completely knocked out the Roc either.

Well turns out the Mustang didn't get the guernsey it was in fact a GTI 40 years which got the final nod of approval from Mrs Dutch.
I think insurance costs on some of the older Euro 8's were a factor as well as the fact that Dutch really was a Holden man at heart.

Mustang was definitely in therer for me, although the overheating issues seem to be a constant thought, although Sharkie has no issues so I'm sure there are ways around that. In the end Mrs Dutch reminded me my roots were Holden and while I seriously came close on a Motorsport Edition with one trip on the clock, I couldn't really justify spending 75% more than the ED40.
The Euro 8s are all great vehicles, but I don't have the mechanical knowledge or desire to deal with the inevitable headaches that will crop up from owning one. And Lucas has already done the Lexus thing.
Plus this way I have kept some cash available for a decent set of wheels at some point..

Like any manufacturer Ford has to learn from their mistakes along the way ... (hopefully)
The 2019 GT's have a new engine (direct + port injection plus new cylinder heads) resulting in more power than the 206-2018 models. Unfortunately it seems this new head does have some cooling issues .... its also their 1st attempt at duel injection so perhaps this will improve.
The 2019 auto (10spd shared with the new Camaro) is also prone to overheating I understand.
The sweet spot in that range is the 2017 manual GT with apparently no major issues. Incidentally this is what I have and recommends, it also apparently outsells the auto by a factor of 2:1 . The 6sp auto in the 2016--2018 models is more robust (though a bit slower) than the new 10spd.
The changes to the 2019 model (including a digital dash like the R) was such that I'd wait for the teething issues to be sorted before I buy. I apply that rule to all the cars I buy and will not buy a new car that has been out on the market for less than 12 months. Most manufacturers make mistakes in new designs and need time to have those identified (unfortunately mostly by their customers) and then find solutions. Like VW that has failed to actually fix the dry clutch DSG 7spd, still today 10 years after it came onto the market!
ED40 will be fun though (with some suitable mods), enjoy!Last edited by Sharkie; 22-05-2019, 09:29 AM.Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2018 MY18 Golf 110TSI (150TSI) Trendline manual White2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...
