Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Ive got the head gasket bill looming which will include valve stem oil seals, piston rings, shells and a skim(possibly shricks if I can find a second hand set....would be rude not too :p ),my road tax is up at the end off the month and I have a serious need for front bushes and engine mounts so a dear month coming up for me as well hahaha

Theres definately benefits in having a decent group of mates you know you can pretty much rely on I still reckon ill be in an old VW(or possibly a bmw 2002)in 15 years though hahaha although ive got a right hankering for a GS400 as a daily for a bit of lux and a lot more reliability although the lexus will probably end up a Phaeton
why the hell do we bother! haha

A GS400 would be sweet, but dam I couldn't handle the fuel bill

Got this back up off my mate mitch a couple weeks ago,was pretty marked up from water and salt damage on the trip to the Ultimate Dubs show in the UK in March where he debuted his car. He'd tried to fix but wasnt having much luck. I tried a couple spots with a couple products to get an idea of where to start. Unfortunately my phone downtime meant ive no pics off the early stages but basically I stuck a circular microfibre on a meguiars DA and burned some electricity and ill bore you with details........

I started off with Alu belgom and ran over it a few times which reduced Mitches DA holograms slightly but added finer swirls. Tried a patch with stage 1 zeppelin but it wasnt tough enough to remove the Alu swirls so made up a watered down mixture of Alu Belgom with the Zeppelin, roughly 2/5th alu belgom,3/5ths zep and a dash of mikes own stuff.

fitted another circular pad on the DA then wrapped that with a microfibre cloth and taped it loosely round the head and went over it three times with the mixture changing the pad/cloth each time and wiping it down by hand inbetween. Also I topped up the mixture inbetween with only first stage zeppelin to further cut down the Alu belgom content........

                to this result

fresh circ pad and cloth and neat 1st stage zeppelin, wiped down with a fresh cloth and zeppelin inbetween two passes, wiping down after the second pass

wiping down with a fresh dry cloth

hand buffing with a soft microfibre

finished stage 1off the 'neat' zeppelin

stage 2 zeppelin, fresh pads and cloth,2 passes again

wiped down, fresh cloth with 2nd stage

                buffed off

coat of cleanser wax as a couple pores seemed to be bleeding

machined that off with the DA and 2nd stage, wiped down by hand and buffed off

Tried to get a picture to show close up reflection

camera phone on full zoom about an inch off

No real progress on the car(new tyres arrived, more adaptors ordered, still on self imposed limp mode till the head gasket is fixed)so filled in with some work stuff
