Replacing RNS 510 with RCD 330+

Hi all, first post here. Firstly I want to thank you all for the wealth of information shared on this thread!

I have read through and I am about to pull the trigger on an RCD330 for my 2015 B7 Passat R-Line (currently has RCD510 OEM, with OEM reversing camera and bluetooth).

Before I do so, I just wanted to see if anyone can confirm for me the following:

- Will steering wheel controls work?
- Will I need to remove/disconnect the bluetooth unit under the front seat?
- Will the OEM reversing camera work, if not, what do I need to do to get this working?
- What adaptors do I need?

Has anyone installed an RCD330 into a B7 Passat?

The steering wheel is different in your car to the Mk 6 Golf style most people seem to have dealt with. I'm not 100% sure but if RNS 510 works then the RCD 330 should give you:
- Volume up and down
- Track skip forward and back

However the phone button will no longer function.

Disconnecting the under seat bluetooth is required as you'll no longer need it and it will conflict with your new RCD330, which has bluetooth and microphone inside the stereo unit.

No idea on the OEM reversing camera

Hopefully none other than the radio antenna adaptor that should come with the RCD330.

NOTE: You will lose AM Radio unless you get an adapter for it. Most only come with an FM band connection.

EDIT: This may not be correct given your newer vehicle so no promises.

If it is OPS, then yes, it will show up. PDC is just the beeps from memory, which is a seperate system that doesn't interact with the readio

Dear all, I'm new here but have more or less gone through a similar process. I've replaced my RNS315 with the RCD330 178B Desay.
My problem is that the display light of the RCD does not auto-adjust based on the light conditions. The RNS had a light sensor or was using the light sensor located in the dials to auto-adjust.
Do you know if there is a way to get the RCD to auto-adjust the display light based on sun/shade/dusk light? Thank you!

Hmm... Mine doesn't either actually. However mine just changes colours depending if the lights are on or off

Hey Guys, got a RCD330+ from AliExpress, it's the Crngiar 187B model.

It was easy to get the HU setup in my Golf GTI. Just had some questions for those who have successfully installed an after market reverse camera with this. What steps did you guys take? We had a go installing it over the weekend, but we couldn't get the camera to switch on when the car was put into reverse.

The HU also came with the relevant adapter to plug in the reverse camera: Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting I plugged in the adapter into the quadlock adapter, replacing one of the existing ones that plugged into the bottom.

Hi All
New here and not sure where to ask, but I’m looking for a radio with the works.

I’m looking for a radio for a Multivan that has all the best features and can replace my RNS510.

The main things I need are:
1. Apple CarPlay
2. Using the OEM camera and keeping the moving RVC Guidelines.
3. Steering wheel control
4. MFD integration
5. Digital Radio

Does such a radio exist?

Anything else would be a bonus:
Like ODB integration.

My current RNS510 is diabolically slow, and often takes a minute or more for the RVC to appear on-screen when I get in the car after it’s been siting for more than 5 minutes.

Closest you would get would be a Discover Media retrofit, but it is an expensive option. Other alternative would be a unit from Alpine which does a pretty good job of integrating with a VW.

I noticed that the unit produces a lot less bass than my previous RCD310 unit, even when I set the bass to maximum in the equaliser settings.

My unit is a noname 187B with 5514 firmware.

I noticed that someone mentioned needing to disable speaker checking with a vcds cable?
I also noticed that my phone now streams to two bluetooth connections, should I manually unplug the bluetooth module for the car?

The car does not have dynaudio.

I've just swapped out the RCD510 on our MY11 Passat Highline a few days ago for an AiduAuto RCD330+ 187E (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) head unit. You will need to do some coding and disabling of existing modules which I'll cover later. I did my coding with an OBDEleven but VCDS, if you have it, with its long coding helper might make the job a little easier. The car doesn't have a reverse camera so I was expecting to have to make some changes to head unit coding to turn this feature off.

Assuming your Tig has a four speaker sound system check to see if you have the fader setting in the sound settings. If not you'll need to enable 4 speaker mode (see what I had to do below). Audio quality seemed to me to improve once the correct setting was enabled. I guess the speakers would now be driven at their proper optimal power level hence providing a better sound output.

What I did:

- Before removing the existing head unit performed an OBDEleven Scan to see what problems if any existed before I started. There were none.
- Removed the dash trim and removed the 4xT20 screws securing the head unit.
- Swapped out the existing head unit with the new RCD330+ and secured it into place with the original screws.
- Physically disconnected the 9w2 bluetooth module which was installed under the drivers seat.
- Performed a second scan to see what new errors presented. Some of these are caused by the speakers being disconnected during the swap-out process so I cleared all these faults and performed another scan. The second scan left me with 3 faults to deal with.
- Two of these faults were rectified by removing/disabling the BlueTooth Telephone module and the Aux Audio Input module from the Gateway Module.
- Ran another OBD Scan and found that only one fault remained. This fault was in the Radio Module. Not sure what I was looking for I examined the settings of the RCD330+ to see if there was anything obvious. I discovered the fader control was not present like it was in the old RCD510. There was however sound going to all four speakers. Perhaps an incorrect speaker configuration???
- Reassembled the dash
- Turned to google to find out more about what the current radio long code settings meant. Found that indeed the radio was set to 2 speaker mode.
- Changed the Byte 2 value from 02 to 04 to change the speaker mode to 4 speaker.
- The Radio Module was no longer showing a fault.
- Checked the sound settings and found the fader setting was still missing.
- Performed a reset of the head unit (push and hold LHS knob until the unit restarts).
- Rechecked the sound settings and found the fader function is now present and the Bass response seems to be much better.
- Changed the Byte 3 value from 40 to 00 to turn off the RVC.
- Performed another full scan with the OBD. No Faults found.
- Tested OPS (parking assist). OPS displays on head unit as expected although the car image shown is not a Passat Wagon. (I'll be changing this in long coding Byte 6 once I figure out the correct bits to set)
- Tested ApplePlay
- Paired an iPhone via Bluetooth.
- Tested MFSW button functionality. All buttons working. PTT button is currently set to Mute audio.
- Confirmed, as expected, the MFD no longer displays phone information.
- Confirmed, as expected, the Climate Control functions are no longer displayed on the head unit touch screen

My RCD330+ Long Coding Settings

The below is what what I have learned about the other Byte values.

Byte 1 sets the the type of output required for specific audio options.
Byte 4 is the speaker monitoring settings.
Byte 5 is the equalisation options.
Byte 0 and its setting of 0E is still an unknown. I've seen a lot of examples on the web were this has been set as 00. I don't know what its doing but it doesn't seem to break anything so I'll leave it alone.

For me the upgrade of the RCD510 to the RCD330+ in this car has been extremely worthwhile.

The fader/equaliser settings are visible on my headunit, but I will end up disconnecting the oem BT module and getting my hands on a VCDS cable to do some fine tuning to see if I can replicate what you've done in your post.

As someone currently with an 187A Desay unit (Mirrorlink only, WinCE based) and has not been keeping up with these RCD330 developments, a brief reading seems to indicate that the 187E variants like so :

Seem to be the most straightforward way to get android auto up and running.

I was happy with the desay unit ive got currently for a while, as it was cheap as when i got it (something like 100 shipped) and id 'sideloaded' some custom apps like EasyConnect to get mirroring working, but that broke after i upgraded my phone to Oreo, and i really cant be bothered getting that back up and running anymore.

Only issue i might see is that the 187E's all seem to have the Y510 software version which people have reported having issues with (volume inconsistencies, fader whackness) on 187B units. Is this indicative of 187B hardware issues or general Y510 software issues?

Is this all because it looks oem in a MKV platform? Extra 100 bux on average you get a android Chinese unit with all the functionality?
