Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Carsystems.pl now sell OEM composite cameras and looms, so that's what I will be getting.

Highline B7's come with BT Premium and MDI, which I will just be removing from the Gateway.

The Media and Nav screens don't appear in the MFD, but not a deal breaker. Wife's car anyway and she prefers the Spotify interface and Siri for hand free iMessage.

I will post up how the RVC looks, and I have read reports the composite OEM camera with this RCD330 plus is better than the MK7 Golf R RVC, but that's conjecture at this point in time.

On the weekend I installed the low line, boot handle, Composite RVC with a Composite loom for a Golf 7.

I will say, the composite video is not as good as the RGB video.

That said, the install is pretty straight forward, after you know what you're doing

The Golf 7 loom from carsystems is for a badge RVC. It needs a trigger wire as well as 12V. The RCD330+ only needs the video feed wires, CVBS+ and CVBS-, and 12V, all at the headunit.

We connected the trigger wire to the to the reverse light, but it turns out it was the 12V wire, so running the camera off the reverse light made the screen get horrible interference.

Reverse wire removed and a quick re-solder later and we're in business.

The RCD330+ doesn't overlay and Park Pilot info over the RVC screen, you have to choose one or the other. That said, the beeps still work.

Unfortunately, the guide lines aren't on it. This seems to be due to the headunit, as the camera I bought from carsystems.pl has the line in the exmaple photo, VW Rear HighLine Camera 5N0827566 + Guidance Line - Sharan 7N0 Golf Variant Passat Variant Tiguan Touran.

Furthermore, like an RNS510, Discover Media headunit, when you roll away after deselecting Reverse gear, it doesn't hold the RVC image for 5 seconds, it switches off immediately.

Finally, the exposure is decent. Again, not as nice as the badge camera in my Golf 5, but I will use it in a few more scenarios in the coming days.

For those who are interested, here is the loom link VW Passat B6 / B7 - Composite Camera wiring harness NOT FOR OEM HEADUNITs

You need a digital delay relay.
That will keep powering the camera for 30 seconds after you deselect reverse.

I have no idea if your issue is the same as I had a couple of years ago, but here goes.

I swapped out a RNS 315 that didn’t have a camera attached for a RNS 510 with a camera and I had a similar issue in that it didn’t seem to recognise when in reverse, even though the on-screen parking sensors were working.

It turns out that it wasn’t just a case of ticking boxes in long coding and adaptions but I had to manually change the long coding digits that were supplied to me through a link.

Or, could it be as simple as have you rebooted the head unit after making changes through OBD11?

Unfortunately I know just enough to get myself into trouble, repeatedly. [emoji848]

        • So I bought the Android Auto version from AliExpress (Crngiar RCD330 Plus R340G 6.5" MIB Car Radio Carplay App Android Auto For VW Tiguan Golf 5 6 Jetta MK5 MK6 Passat Polo Touran-in Car Radios from Automobiles & Motorcycles on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group) into my Mk6 Golf R and have the following to report/require help on from people much smarter than myself:

          Install:
Plug and play was no issue at all, although it looks like my camera was an aftermarket (read hack job) install, so I need to figure out how to wire the adaptor for the Reverse camera.

In summary it kind of works straight away with Dynaudio (see bugs)
The buttons on the steering wheel all work ok (see bugs)
OEM reverse camera - TBC (still need to wire in connector)
Sound quality - seems fine with Dynaudio (same as RNS510 to me, but I am no Audiophile)

          Bugs:
          - OPS system kind of works - every time the car is switched on, the OPS beeps randomly and just this morning parking at work, the front sensors were saying there was something there when I was reversing, even with no obstruction. I will clean the sensors and try again.
          - Volume - I can only get the volume to work once I plug in and play something through either the BT audio or android auto. If I do not do this, there appears to be a master mute button that means there is no volume/noise. I cannot get around this without playing some form of audio through the phone
          - Fader - every time I switch the car on (and get the audio working), the Fader is automatically front passenger speaker only, I have to adjust each time I start the car
          - Android Auto - This is the main reason I bought this particular head unit and didn't look at upgrading the BT module. It took me a long time to get to work, wouldn't work with an aftermarket cable. Then I updated Android Auto on my S7 and connected an OEM cable and it worked, but seemed very buggy still. After a few connects/disconnect it seems to be ok for now
          - CarPlay - cannot get this to work with my iPhone 6 even with OEM cable (will try updating software and see if this helps)
          - MirrorLink - seems to connect, but says that I have no MirrorLink capable apps... Not sure of the truth of this as I don't know much about MirrorLink
          - AM Radio - does not work - it cannot find any stations

Now some questions, done anyone know a workaround for the Fader reverting back to passenger left speaker on start-up & how I can get the sound to work without playing through BT or Android Auto first? As these are the only 2 issues I need to fix to enjoy the head unit.

If I cannot get the above sorted, I will maybe look at going back to the RNS510 unit and upgrade the BT module, but I'd really like to get this sorted as Android Auto (if working properly) is awesome.

          • The fader could be because it is either not correctly coded for the amp, or does not support it.
In the coding byte for amplifier in the RCD330, try changing to 03, reboot and test. if that doesn't work try 05 and reboot.

              • I don't have nor have I ever seen an RCD330 but I believe you can use the RCD510 coding label file?
                Might be in byte 2?

Which doesn't seem to be the correct one, as everyone else with OEM camera's have been linking this - Volkswagen Factory Backup Camera RGB to RCA Video Output Converter

                  Which one do I need?

Also where does this plug into the head unit? As the only 2 plug points on the back of the head unit already have connectors attached (Left is the quadlock plug and right is the FM antenna)

If you have an OEM camera with the 26 pin multimedia connector which connects to the RCD510/RNS510 then you need the RGBS to composite converter you linked.
If you are using an aftermarket or MY16 Tiguan camera with composite video (single yellow RCA connector) then you use the adapter you circled, and put that blue square connector into the appropriate block in the quadlock harness.

Any luck with the amp coding?

I have the 26pin OEM camera, so I'll buy the connector I linked.

I haven't tried to change the amp coding yet, as I don't have an obd11 or rosstech cable yet.

Some more information on the volume/fader issue. I noticed when I drove the car earlier today, that all of the settings for the head unit reset with each start. Things like speed volume compensation, audio muting for voice etc etc. So I am assuming the radio reverts back to stock settings each startup. Not sure if that is helpful information or not?

Thanks for everyone's help thus far. If I get it up and running 100% I'll do a complete write up for everyone to follow.

                        • Hi mate, i've just bought a 2010 Tiguan, seems there is no bluetooth to be found, i have the rcd310, was looking at purchasing the 9w7 until i came across your post, will the 330 plus work directly in the tig, does it just plug and play or what? I am trying not to spend too much, dealer wants around $800 just for 9w7 and install, aftermarket want around $650, any help would be much appreciated, as I've seena 330 on ebay for aroun $300, do I need anything else for install? Cheers for any help

                          • Similar bugs here ..
Fader defaults to front left speaker most power cycles.
BT has all sorts of start up and operational glitches
                            Volume audio sometimes works
Android Auto can't list music folders otherwise no too bad compared to BT.
Bleeps loudly 5-6 times on start up always.
Screen not bright enough for direct sun... doesn't store settings?

Seller is deferring to VW for software update...no dates given.

About to pull it and refit the original 310.

                            Promising but total PIA. 3/10.

                              Hey Kamold,

Tried all the bit and bytes for radio to rectify the fader and sound issues and non of them seem to do anything other than reset/ restart the headunit.

Seller said it is a firmware issue so maybe it can't be fixed with some simple coding?

Unfortunately then it appears they suffer from the same software issues as countless other cheap Chinese head units ie lack of support for buggy releases
