Firmware doesn't address reception, it is what it is. I'd highly recommend updating the firmware though, everything is a lot better since the one you have.
Thanks for a response Moda. Yes I have the 2xsingle FAKRAS. The reception has static that comes in and out at time. Volume can be all over the place too as i think as reception degrades it starts turning the signal off. I would have thought the radio is software defined and hence firmware could improve it but it seems that you have not heard of any issues here so a firmware update probably won't help. AM works fine. I guess it's possible that the antennas are swapped. I have read that the OEM radios choose between the two antennas to find which is best. Maybe the DNS doesn't do this?

One thing I am considering is if the wireless reverse camera is interfering by inducing noise onto the antenna. Changing this requires pulling apart the dash unfortunately. Something I am getting better at each time...

    • So I noted today that the radio reception is only bad when the car is on. Magically comes good when the car is off. I probably have a loose ground. Hopefully get a chance to investigate it soon.

Yep sounds like a bad ground somewhere to me. Looks like you have some time with a multimeter ahead of you!

        • Maybe bad charger is plugged on and start to work than car is on?

          • Are you back up and running again Moda, how long did it take to get the part from China from when you ordered it?

Yep, back up and running. Sandy got me all sorted. Replacement board ended up not fixing it, so Sandy has he unit to go back to China for parts and I now have a replacement unit.

              Something coming from Audiosources soon

Usually they just delete my negative experience with "Sandy" without asking

                      WTF!

If that's the case, some poor customer will end up with a "new" unit full of used parts.

                      Unbelievable.

                      • Its not a big deal, very common and happens more than you think, particularly in China. Hell, even major manufacturers do it quite a bit. If you ever have an issue with an iPhone and get it replaced in store, it will be a refurb, brand new case/screen/battery, but the working internals will be reused.

                        • I understand that this happens but f me, throw it in the bin FFS.

Finally got the balls to update my unit yesterday and it seems to be working fine.
Weird thing is that reception on the radio seems to be better than it was (even though it wasn't bad before).
I will leave it at home and drive the kids car to work for a couple of days to see if the can update helps with battery drain.

Meh, it would only be usable components, most of it would be going in the bin.

Anyways, hopefully that fixes your battery drain issues, I wonder if it is even the CANBUS drain issues that the Mk5s had?

What issues are you having? It sounds like it may even be a GPS/Headunit configuration issue more than anything. Press and hold the NAV button will mute or unmute the Nav software, btw.

You have the Non-A, Old CANBUS. I can't even remember what version of the firmware is the correct one for that unit, looking at what I have, it would be:

                              BSP: MS9.H.32.1018
                              MCU: DNS810.141014
                              MPU: DNS810.11Oct14.32.VW.V36

It would be worth sending Audiosources an email to see what the latest version is for your unit, BTW.

                              BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!

It is your responsibility to read all the instructions and follow them, it is up to you to follow them, otherwise you will brick your unit. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. ALSO, do it with the engine running to make sure your car doesn't drain the battery, AND if the unit freezes or doesn't do anything or just has a black screen throughout the process, JUST LET IT SIT AND DO ITS THING. DON'T PANIC. DON'T TOUCH IT. LET IT DO ITS THING.

                              • Thank you! I had a long chat with the manufacturer, I was told that they do not have such firmware. Offered to buy a new DVD.The fact is that when navigation is muted, pressing the Navi button does not help, need to reload.
