I was so upset when I first got the unit (the iPod,rds freeze, monsoon ect.) the fact that iPod and Bluetooth are just so bad (and that's the deal breaker for me , that's the reason I wanted a new stereo in the first place)
I had opened up a paypal claim, and I found out today that I have won the case. I will most likely be flashing he unit back to the December firmware and putting back the original map Data on the card and sending it back to Lsq star. I am however going to keep a close eye on this thread so if I see that newer firmware fixes some of those issues I may just order another one at a later time, this time directly from audio sources maybe this way there will be more technical support,
I ordered an eonon GM 5153 and it should be arriving in the next few days along with the enfig antenna adapter. I'm going to try this out and hope it won't have as many problems.

Fair call mate, good luck with the Eonon

LSQ probably don't care about the firmware version on returned units, so I probably wouldn't bother flashing back or messing around with it, imo

    • @Moda Installed the Eonon today, and I have to say the two units look almost the same, and the build quality imo is identical to the DNS the buttons and knobs are very close if not the same quality, .. Maybe eonon has upped their game, but then again this is my first one maybe ones in the past have been lesser quality. As far as working, everything worked out of the box. The Sound quality is great, identical to the DNS, BT audio blows away the DNS and you can skip tracks on the wheel and for those with iPhones you can use siri while connected, (could not do that with the dns)
Video Playback, some of my videos that worked on the DNS do not play on the Eonon, I guess it's a codec compatibility issue.
Although I have to admit the lay out and software of the DNS was Killer, it just worked when it wanted to and the BT was so bad,
Ill continue to watch in the Future and maybe buy another when its all worked out.

      • Maybe this manufacturer could create a nice AndroidAuto (announced a few days ago) head unit to fit in VWs? Would be simpler/cheaper/more reliable as the phone does all the work.

        Android Auto

They have 28 car manufacturers signed on to put this in new cars starting next year, but we need something for existing cars

Nice one Yea Eonon must have picked up their build quality game. The unit in my Prado is only ~12 months old, but its very cheap and cheesy plastics etc.

BT Quality is still disappointing on the DNS, used it last night and its still very shrill and clipped on the highs. Lame.

It would be nice (Android Auto and Apple Carplay), but really, can't see it happening, between the licensing costs, and Audiosources apparent inability to develop a working product within a decent amount of time. Yea.

You would think that they could develop a standalone plugin unit (like their mirroring units), since, as far as i'm aware, both Google and Apples implementations are nothing more than communication/transport protocols, the actual software runs on the phones, and just displays the content on the HU and receives touch inputs. Shouldn't be too hard to implement.... but then again it is Audiosources, so, yea.

          • Well hopefully this new 2 way android module (if it ever happens/works properly) might get us pretty close.

Hopefully, but, frankly, if I was Audiosources, I would just can their current module design, and develop a new one with the Apple/Google licensed protocols (because Apple/Google would have reference designs for their connectivity, so they would just have to design a module to communicate with the DNS).... but then again, that'd be throwing away all their engineering work they've already done, so probably wouldn't happen.

              • I am after the May update my unit has fire engine red outlines rather then the dark red or crimson red it had before. Looks very tacky now. The unit also took a huge Perfomance drop after the update and is very slow to reaction.

                Any fixes by any chance.

Wait, which update are you after? The may update in OP has worked fine for me, the June update is very broken though.

                  • I thought I did the May one. My unit is like super slow now. I updated it because it started to freeze recently and if the volumn was up while it froze it made a solid beep noise and would not turn off with the car. Had to pull the fuse

                      Possible to go backwards

                      • Honestly I don't know of I
Can take this much more. My ans was junk and buying this with high hopes is just as bad. Everything worked fine until it started beeping and freezing. Then updating makes it worse. My iPod cord last like 1 month just like the ans so that's junk. Bluetooth playback quality is very poor also I could of gotten by that but the iPod cord sucks now the red theme is different. And the unit is way to slow to react. Is the unit junk or
                        Just the software?

The hardware in it is fine, same as all the other wince units. The software is (and always has been) a let down.

That being said, the BT quality is still crap, so i'm not sure if thats a software/firmware issue, or whether its a hardware issue, I dunno.

                              • Way more stable from what these guys have said. It's stable enough for me (other than a few known issues) so I skipped the June update after the problems a few guys were having with with it.
