Not sure whether it was the link or the fact I used a DVD instead of a CD-R that got it working properly

Thats identical to my one so I guess its the same 710770688 bytes I used DVD's and both the ones I burnt worked fine.
Background is similar to my Tomtom and streets in 3D are only the ones as I pass them In 2D they are all there.

This is really a firmware question, as apparently that's where it's set, but...

Why is there no way to customise the voices? Some years back, the US comic Doonesbury had a sequence on "celebrity GPS car voices" and what a hot seller they'd be.

Personally, I'd get a kick out of Darth Vader telling me that my lack of turning right at the round-about is disturbing. But *anything* than those bland Oxford English voices would be preferable. Or Gandalf telling me that a driver never arrives early nor late, but always when he means to, so friggin get a move on!

Has nobody figured out how to hack the systems for this? Unless the text2voice is all machine generated, as opposed to pre-recorded strings, then some brilliant soul should have figured out how to upload different voices. Provided they want to go through the work of recording it all.

There is an English Male voice in 4120 Firmware but due to the limitations of the great VW empire nothing else is available

Have just upgraded to V6 maps. My upgrade did not come with a manual. So I now have speed limits and the satnav also has GPS car speed.

Does the system allow you somehow to set a speed warning linked to the two - or is that something only cheap handheld units can do?

Really? I have never seen that! Did you perform some trick to get that displayed?

I would be interested to know how you got it to do that as I spent an hour this afternoon and cant find where to set that.

The only thing is that you can do it in the secret menu but cant have that on and see the navigation.

Also that speed is from te Canbus not from the Satnav as I understand it.

I did find that by putting it on Auto Zoom in 3D mode it shows a few more street names than if you have it sitting on the minimum of 25m

Sorry. Not saying I have it on the screen at the same time. What I meant is the system has the information - surely it should be designed to have a speed alert ability.

My V6 Map install is missing street names as well. I've reburnt it twice, i downloaded a new copy, the MD5 hash is the same between the 2 I downloaded so can't figure out whats going on?

I rolled back to V5 and i get (limited) street names in 3D... install V6 and no street names...

???

Put it in 2D and they are there. When you drive along with it in 3D the adjacent ones are there but not as many as V5 However the speed indicator is better and the roads are more up to date.

If you zoom it out to 400m in 3D they will show up better Put it on Auto Zoom and it will then zoom in when you get near a turn on your trip The correct info also shows up in the MFD with the distance to turns with the street name
