Hurry up and get on board with the group buy Ryan, you know you want to, you know what it can do.

FWIW, I'm in tigger73's Adelaide group buy, and was initially going to install the thing as soon as it arrives. But given the install placement on a RHD Mk6 Golf, I'm now thinking I'll hold off for a few weeks while Autopolar sort out any firmware issues with the new white MFD firmware before I install it. I really don't want to have to get back in underneath the wipers to physically disconnect the FIS from the car, should it do something funny in Beta.

they suggest removing the gateway fuse from the car instead of removing the whole device. that way you can leave the USB cable hanging out

In order to effect a reset of the system, you mean? Removing the fuse for the CAN gateway will surely prevent the car from operating? (I've been struggling to follow some of the posts on the auto-polar forum... somewhat broken English. )

Yes but what it can do is pretty much what I can already do using Torque on my phone, is $300 worth the convenience of not spending 20 seconds putting my phone into the holder...

Functionality can depend on what hardware you have installed on your car. i.e. if the hardware is not there to support the feature then you obviously won't be able to do it.

There's quite a few videos available on Mk V with Autopolar FIS+ Advanced - this ones in Spanish (I think) but you get the general idea.

actually when the FIS+ doesn't have power (normally from the gateway) then its applied via the USB connected to your computer. thus an 'offline' upgrade.

that's if youre worried about it

I understand the translation, just re-read it, think about it, and re-read it another few times to be sure haha

hopefully the steering wheel keymapping will sort my issue out. but this device is fantastic, should be implemented from factory

that's what i kept thinking too - $300 is alot of money for some numbers/stats.

the torque pro software coupled with the obd2 bluetooth shows alot of info.
a decent obd2 bluetooth will cost approx $30-50.
the torque pro software cost $4.85 (andriod).

i'm not saying the two are the same.
i'm just having a whinge at the price of the FIS unit.

Yep, to hard! Also doesn't dip the mirror.

Now seriously, I tought about it too, Ryen has a good point, but it's also the convenience and integration with the rest of the car.

Actually... I think the two are probably very very close to being the same. It does look like the FIS+ is essentially just reading outputs from the computer and displaying them... Yes it's nice and integrated and can do some extra things... but then the Torque Pro would probably do most of what I want this thing to do. Shame is they don't make it for iOS (AFAIK)

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I haven't looked into that part yet, but I did leave the USB hanging out so I can update it... I hadn't even thought about the power side of things and needing to re-boot it.

Don't want to ninja the thread but I'll probably be selling my unused Polar FIS+ Advanced since I got mine before finding out that the Polo 6R doesn't have a separate CAN Gateway module and it will require a new cable and software before the Polar guys can support it

So if there's anyone interested in Brisbane, shoot me a PM (I can help install it too - I've done Gateway swaps in mk5's)

you need to use the 'update' menu in the polar fis+ if its still in the car with power applied. i guess you could unplug your battery too?

Yes del address was differnet... but thats not the issue... I just called my bank to find out that they put a block on my Credit Cards back in SEPT as I had some spam mail about the banks life insurance returned back to them! So they put a block on my cards and they did not tell me about it, The Blocks deny certain transactions - yet still allows me to use it eg PayPal orders from OS! Crazy Banks!

                              I'll try again tomorrow.
