Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

However to edit the script file you also need to generate a valid CRC or the unit will reject the update.
There are a few pieces of software that can do this however I'm not sure if any of them are still available.
I have setconfig which is no longer in active development.
What sized partitions did you want?

    • Thank you for the reply,
I would go for a larger map partition and I do not copy much music onto the HDD anymore. 40/50/10.

      • I downloaded a RNS510 format image file - 2760 all.nrg.
Can I use 2760 when my RNS510 is on FW 6276 being a C14 unit?

          Hi kamold,

I had a look for the setconfig you mentioned. I could not find many links to it, but this seems to be for professional coders. Is this easy to use? Do still have access to it?
Can I use FW 2760 to repartition my HDD? I found this in another thread on vwwatercooled.

            • Hi
Could somebody upload somewhere fw 4120_fw_60_35_5.iso mentioned at 1st topic please? That link is dead.
              Thanks

              • Hi...one thing I have noticed at 402x firmware is the unit seems even MORE picky about CDs.I never had any issues with mine in the past but after upgrade to 402x I had to use xpcdburner and track at once recording to get a custom boot screen CD to be accepted.

I have an upgrade for 6276, but with a small map partition (for Aus/NZ). I don't have access to my tools I need to build a new one at the moment, but there are firmware images available that will just do a format of the partitions, just may need to enable firmware downgrade.
Let us know if you are still having problems and I'll try and sort something out for you.
Hey kamold, do you still have the 6276 version with changed partition sizes?

Then after you have upgraded your gateway you can upgrade to 5238.
You can download it from here Loading...

There are only minor differences but it is the most stable and up to date firmware available.
Hello everyone, i want to update my RNS-510 to 5238 Version but all links not working, anyone can post working links ? Thanks

                    • I've been having a dig through my archives and only seem to have the Australian version of the firmware, Kamold may have some of the others floating around so I'll wait for him to chime in.

From what I understand, it makes very little (if any) difference to the operation of the device. Also, the RNS510 is getting on in years, and a modern drop-in that supports Android Auto/CarPlay like the RCD330+ is by far the quickest and easiest way to bring a little modern tech to older vehicles, albeit at a cost.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Firmware from Australian members will not be suitable for Euro units.
Our maps are smaller in size than Euro maps (which I believe, come in 2 parts - and the correct part will depend on whether you are categorised in East or West Europe).
Our firmware (modified) versions here are 90/5/5% (Music/Map/POI). So, a 30Gb HDD on your RNS510 will only have available space of 1.5Gb for map. I think the Euro map parts are 10Gb each.

It would pay to direct your enquiry to a Euro or UK based forum, or consider upgrading the head unit (wiser choice in my opinion) to the RCD330+ (NoName brand is considered the best/reliable I believe) as per @The_Hawk comments.

I have FW Version 5238, but the partitions will be all wrong for you.

                        • Hello how are you?
Please I need your help. I am in Europe (Spain)
SKODA SuperB Combi car from 02/2014, it is my father's TAXI and I need help please.
                          My device is RNS510 3T0035680Q C14 dated 12.2013 HW:21 SW:6270

Suddenly I didn't have maps (in the hidden menu I got a dash in maps), I mean I guess the SSD must have broken.... I went to update it to version 6276 and in the part of updating the HDD it always gives an error and no exceeds 6% in that section, the CD is ejected and the SYSTEM CANNOT BOOT - PLEASE INSERT SWL-CD.

That confirmed to me that the original SDD was bad, so I bought a new 64GB one and it arrived.
                          To the new SDD:
                          a) I have removed the jumper (I assume master or slave) that it has on its pins.
                          b) I have connected the PC with an adapter, the BIOS detects it, and Partition Master tells me that it does not have a partition and I have not created one since I understand that the FW CD is the one that creates partitions. I don't even know how many partitions/format/size the original SSD has.

                          The old SDD:
                          a) I have connected it to the PC, and the BIOS and the Partition Master recognize it perfectly, and it does not show me partitions either.

                          PROBLEM:
                          A) When installing the new SSD:
                          - The player keeps making gear noise, as if he is receiving some order incorrectly.
                          - The CD/DVD player does not read the Firmware CD and does not eject it either, I had to disassemble the player and remove the CD manually.

                          C) When reinstalling the old SDD:
                          - However, when I put the old hard drive back in, the CD/DVD drive DOES work properly, I mean, this drives me crazy...

I have cloned the old SDD to the new SDD using HDDRawCopy1.20 with an img, but when installing the new SSD the same error occurs with the CD/DVD drive.
I need super help, because I think I have something left to do or configure.
At least I need the radio to work, I don't care if it has maps or not...
Please help me, it's from my father's taxi and it's been two weeks without a radio/nav.

                          • Try putting the jumper back on the SSD

                            • Honestly, in 2024 you can buy a CarPlay/Android Auto compatible unit for not a lot of money. I understand that's not always an option for everyone, but for someone spending a lot of time in the car the benefits of Android Auto/CarPlay are so great that I would consider it an investment in my own sanity.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
