I believe the Japanese RNS510 has a different mainboard so you won't be able to load EU firmware.
Best you can hope for is FM converter, or sell it and buy an AU/EU unit.

I have upgraded to 4020, and it works fine, but the now the parking sensors shows a wrong distance (or in another way).
Should I change anything with the vagcom or is it just the the fw 4020 works ?
There are important differences between FW4020 and FW5238? My unit is a RNS 510 "A" ... could I install the 5238?
Have you a modified fw5238 for units "A"?
Currently I have a modified version of your fw4020 working perfectly in my unit.
I have a 2009 Golf 6 with a RNS 510 B unit that was running a very old firmware version (1300). I used the custom 4020 firmware from this thread. I burned it with the default windows 8 burn software on a cheap CD-R at full speed and was able to succesfully install it. I only needed to put the navigation maps back on it from the DVD, but otherwise no VCDS coding was needed. I also got the new partitions automatically no need to first install a different firmware version, you can go straight to 4020.
I do have some questions:
I now have the service menu, however I do not see an item to allow downgrades?
Can I install firmware 4120 on my B unit, what are the differences between 4020 and 4120?
When I haven't used the car for a day or so and I switch from Radio to Media it goes to CD instead of SD (the option I last used). If I click on SD it does remember what folder it was playing. I haven't noticed this with the old firmware as far as I know.
Using MIX on SD media, it seems to forget which tracks it already has played. You can hear song B 2 times while song C was never played. I don't think that is firmware related though as it was also the case with the previous original firmware.
1. It's there down the bottom somewhere can't remember.
2. You need to check you hw_radio version. If it's 04 or below you could damage your tuner board upgrading to 4120. Difference is a male English nav voice.
3. Haven't seen that behaviour.
4. Random is random. Don't know what sort of pseudo random algorithm they use but you can get the same track again depends on many factors.

In regard to the "Mix/Random" comment....I notice that there is not any particular pattern, and yes, song B may get played 3 times in 2 days during my daily 35km commute to work, but song C may not be heard for months (5Gb music loaded at this time).
My Ipod Classic (160Gb) is truly random.....it's a loooooooong time between repeats
