Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yep, I think he beat me by a few seconds!

It will come with 5218 I think, but modified 4120 makes more sense with the better partition setup? Just not sure it will work ok with version P.

I can sort you out with modified 5238, no need to use 4120.

          • It's got the correct European firmware, just every time I try and install the v9 maps the device keeps restarting. I'm going back to v8 maps for now

              Hi all
I'm new on this forum - so just a simple question:
Will modified 5238 for European units be available here?
If yes: will be modified to prevent recoding? Any plans when?

              Thanks

Give me a day to get the image built and uploaded if you would like to test.

                • HELP!

                  I'm new and I'm sorry if this has been asked before . . . . .

I have a lovely 2009 passat CC and would not change it for the world! However I have just purchased v9 maps that I plan on installing as some of the roads I travel are completely different to those stated in the current version of maps (v4). I have a few questions:

Is it possible to understand what the difference is between these map versions? Or is it a simple act of hoping the update you require is in the updated version?

And secondly . . FIRMWARE! . . . . I dont know what version my current RNS510 firmware is (i dont actually care), I dont have access to the secret menu (apart from the AM FM & DAB options), and I believe the firmware has not changed since its birth April 2009. But I would like to understand is there any information about what each firmware version includes?

Also why would I want to update the firmware? What are the reasons etc

The only thing I dont like about the RNS510 is perhaps its a little slow to respond to touches? perhaps?

                  Cheers

                  • Firstly this is an Australian forum and our maps are version V6 Our modified firmware is different to what you would use in Europe as well.

We do not have DAB as ours is different is called DAB+

Firmware updates bugs and gives different features like extra voices and should make the unit run better.

The Euro maps are bigger and our modified partitions of 90/5/5 don't work on your units.

Wait for Kamold to answer he may have a version you can use

There is no published map change list from VW. You would need to get in touch with the GIS map data provider for the UK, not sure who that is.

If you don't care what firmware version you have then don't update it. Updating will give some new features such as RDS, additional male voice for guidance and some speed increases in the UI and navigation. It can't make it as fast as a newer unit which has newer hardware however.

                      • Hi guys,

New to all of this but done a fair of research. I'm from the UK, recently bought a late 2009 Scirocco with a RNS510 in it. Obtained version info from the unit:

                        Part no: 1T0035680C
                        HW Version: H04
                        SW Version: 2660
                        HW Vehicle: 0xC801
                        HW Radio: 0006

Based on a thread here, I believe I have a version C unit. Looking to update to get full postcode input for the nav system. According to the first post, the best firmware for my unit would be 4120 - can someone confirm this is correct? If so, the link is dead - should it point to http://www.rnsfirmware.com/downloads...FW_70_25_5.ISO linked to from here RNS Firmware » RNS510 firmware 4120 modified for Europe? Is one of the mods in these firmwares to prevent the factory coding being applied during update?

I have read that people have experienced battery drain with firmware > 3xxx with older CANbus gateways - is this likely with 4120?

Thanks in advance for any assistance

                        • No recoding required. No battery drain in vehicles 2008 and later. The link is fine. Try again. You will also need your map DVD on hand to reload. Check gpsunderground for v9.

                          • Thanks a lot for your advice kamold. Could you confirm that fw 4120 is ok for my rev C please?

Tried the link for 4120 again and get a 404 not found - when looking at the link it also has Australia in the URL. The 4020 link also gives a 404 not found but that has Europe in the URL

                            • 4120 is fine for your unit. The isos are working. Try going to rnsfirmware .com and follow the link there.

                              • Thanks for confirming that, much appreciated.

I think you misunderstood which link is dead - the links to the ISOs on rnsfirmware.com are fine as I have downloaded the 4120 firmware, its the links to rnsfirmware.com in post 1 of this thread that are dead. I had to click on the banner and then find the appropriate article to get to the ISO...

                                Hopefully thats a bit clearer
