i am EU User on C device, and want to use 412x FW,
what are the features? do i still need the map disk?

See the post immediately above yours....
If you are repartitioning the hard drive you need the map disk. So if the current firmware is 2xxx series then the hdd partitions will change.
And if you are loading a custom firmware with modified partition ratios the hdd will be wiped also.
So you need to have the map disk on hand for the upgrade.

The maps partition is not a format that you can access from a computer.
You need to use the DVD drive. If the DVD drive is broken you'll need to replace it.

As you have to completely disassemble the 510 to get the HDD out it might be a mission.

Would be easier and possibly cheaper to buy a new DVD drive especially if you damage something

I simply wanted to avoid having to buy a box of DL discs when I only need one, £20 is cheapest I've seen. I'd load v8 maps without poi's if I could find a reliable link.

You could always buy a genuine version of the map which would probably cost a bit more than 20 pound.

You are in the wrong country I bought a 10 pack of D/L dvd's for $19 and thought that was expensive

Bought some discs and burned v9 maps. I installed v8 maps the other night but with the v9 it appears to be hanging, and if you press eject the status bar is not increasing. What am i doing wrong?

We only have Aus V6 so dont know. I see you upgraded to 4120 Just DONT USE THE AUSTRALIAN version as the map partition is too small for European maps
