I tried to update the maps to V12 Western Europe but that failed and now I got no maps installed at all. I suppose it failed because (as I learned later) I have only two partitions and not enough space for the new maps.
From what I read here I get the impression I should install firmware 4020 and can then install the V12 maps, is that right?
And if so, can I install 4020 directly or should I first upgrade to some 27xx version?
What firmware version are you running? Is it one with custom hdd partition ratios? If so is it one for Europe? You may not have enough space for the maps if you have changed from the default settings.

I live in Europe and just bought the car second hand there. I did not change the firmware or partitioning, so I suppose the firmware is the original 1304 and the partitioning will likely also be original (don't know how to verify this).
Even with original firmware you can load New maps, the space for maps is less with 3 partitions, not more. If the load failed it's probably a bad map disk.

Can you please help me? I have read this entire thread and googled a lot. But I'm not entirely sure to which version I need to update.
I'm thinking first to version 3810. But not sure which 3810 I need to pick. The normal one or the Update Modified (Regensburg syndrome, MP3 VBR Resume for revision A, B and C head units)?
And after 3810 to 402x from this thread.
I have a Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI from january 2008.
The RNS510 setup shows the following version information:
Delivery part number: 1T0 035 680A
HW-Version: H04
SW-Version: 1020
SV SW-Version: C_EU_5.540_t730
HW Vehile: 0xC001
SW Vehicle: 0x44261C02
HW Radio: 0003
Can I upgrade to Firmware 4020 modified?
I would like to use the new functionality like Speed Limit display etc.
Are there positive test results for my configuration?
The information on other sides like my-gti.com and vwnavi.com is confusing me because some users say that fw 4020 can only be used for 1T0 035 680D of higher.
If the upgrade would go wrong, can I reinstall the current version 1020 which I have on CD?
I will be gratefull if you could give me information if I can/should do this.
