Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • Hi Kamold,

I´ve read that the fw5238 gives TMC problems in the European units and resolve with fw 5274 (not available for "A" units, I think).

Currently I have a modified version of your fw4020 working perfectly in my old RNS 510 "A" unit.

You recommend upgrading to 5238? Are there new improvements?

      Thanks again from Spain.

      • We don't have working TMC here in Australia so I don't know about TMC issues unfortunately. But you cannot use 5274 on A units. So if you use TMC you would possibly be better off staying where you are, or testing 5238 and downgrading if you have problems...

        • I am running 5238 on my A unit. No TMC, but 5238 is a very stable platform

            • I'd have to agree with FJ Steve. For older units 5238 seems to be the most stable version. I've experience nothing but problems with 5274 on B,C editions. Whereby it would go into a continuos reboot loop. 5269 seems ok, but not much benefit over the tried and tested 5238 Firmware.

              • my dads Passat CC RNS 510 is giving a SWL error
its the same unit from factory, hasnt had any issues before.
I think it had a software upgrade from a VW dealer a year or so back, but nothing has been done or attempted at home.

im new to these fancy HU. from having a quick flick through here he needs to download software and burn it on to a disc im guessing?
or is there a way to reset it without any tools?
I see a few other people had the SWL error after updating etc, but we havent done anything like that.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Would it be easier to take it up to the local VW dealer and get them to reload the software?

                • If it's under warranty then make it the dealers problem. If not then load 5238 firmware on there.

                    thanks for that.

out of warranty, think my parents have it up at VW to see if they can load the latest software as they have done it before

My delivery part number and sw version currently are "-". Hw version is 04 and on the lable it says originally it was 1 Z0 035 680 A with 1004 sw version.
The car (vw passat b7) was bought with this columbus instead of the original.

                      • What part of the load process does it happen? Post a screen shot of the error.

It can read the CDs but before starting to install I get the below error.
I also added two pictures, one with the present state and the other with the initial state it was before update - 2664.

                          Thank you!

                          • MK6 GOLF RNS 510 Rebooting

                            Hi all,

Basically i have a mk6 golf with a rns510 head unit, this has been working fine until weekend just gone, when you power it up the "welcome to VW" sign appears and then it just reboots, have tried a hard reset which has not made any difference at all, any idea if it could be corrupt firmware, bearing in mind it does not let me go into the menu at all?

                            Thanks in advance
                            Kind Regards
                            Harry

                            • Yes it could be a firmware issue, could also be a number of other things.
Try loading 5238 firmware to see if it fixes it.

You need to try and load 5238 firmware.
Error 010306 normally means you have tried to load too many times.
You should be able to do a reset with setup+eject+mic buttons and then start the load process
