Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Do you have any issue with 4120?
Which 4120 image did you use? Is it the link in first page of this thread?

Hi guys
Thanks to the awesome instructions I was able to update my RNS510 successfully - VIM and everything working fine.
My my only major problem is it appears that the Navigation DVD that came with my car is of such poor condition that when I insert it into the unit to reload my maps, it does not recognise the DVD at all. Tried to to burn a nice clean copy hoping that my laptop would have better luck, but no avail.
This may be the wrong place to be discussing stairs particular issues, but what are my options to get my navigation back? Can I download the DVD! or grab a copy off someone in Adelaide? If all else fails, I might be able to drop into the local VW dealer and see if they have one I can borrow?

Hmmm - still the same problem....
I have burned the DVD at 1x (apparently successfully). I start up the RNS510 and select MAP or NAV, and it requests the Navigation DVD. When I insert it - it thinks for a couple of second, and then requests the Navigation DVD again, this time with an audible voice request as well. There is an "OK" button with the message that you can click, but the system seems to sit doing nothing after that.....?
Is it worth burning another copy of the Nav DVD? I'm hoping I haven't upgraded the firmware incorrectly and buggered the SatNav!

Eg got V5 need V6 Got V6 you don't need anything You can downgrade to V5 and then go back up to V6 but I found I couldn't reload the same version a second time.
Tried when I was comparing the streets shown in the two versions. Otherwise go and see "Transporter" forum moderator who is in Adelaide2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

After you insert the map DVD you should just hear it spinning, and the map should slowly load up the map picture of your location (because it is reading from slow DVD).
In the background it will start copying the map data to HDD.
If you hit the eject button you will get a warning message and also progress bar for the load.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

Kamold and Hillbilly
Cheers for the advice. I can confirm that my burned DVD must have been no good because I went and caught up with a mate for lunch who worked at Solitaire (local dealership) and grabbed the V6 maps off him to upload. His DVD worked a treat in comparison to my burned one - all copied over in about 5 minutes and working perfectly.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions - I was getting a bit worried for a second there!Last edited by wags; 17-12-2013, 02:39 PM.

guys, I need your advise
Guys, I need your opinion.
I just bought my dream car, a 2011 mk 6 GTI.
I want to update the firmware of my RNS 510 but I'm not sure which one I should get as my unit doesn't match anything from the front page.
This is what I have:
HW: H55
SW: 3970
1T0 035 680 D
What do you think?
Thanks heaps.

hey guys, first off Happy New Year!
now, I am updating my wifes maps and firmware but the secret menu doesnt work. I went into VCDS and changed the diag mode to 1 from 0 and still can't get the menu up. Anyway these are the details from VCDS
VAG Number: 3T0 035 680 A
Component: RNS-MID H41 2854
Shop #: Imp:790 WSC 73430
now according to the post at the start it means I should use 4xxx firmware but is this going to be slow? isn't my unit an A model?

It's not an A unit, yes you can use 4120. A, B, C rev etc only refer to Vw golf/polo/tiguan etc parts so a bit of a misnomer.
