Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

4120 uses the same 3 partition scheme as 3810.
    Existing coding is preserved.

    • Should I take a 2 step approach, to 3810 first and then 4120 or should I upgrade from 2720 to 4120 ? In view of how long the process, I am inclined to do the latter.

Nothing to be gained by doing it in steps.

        • Just upgraded my 'A' Unit to 3810 and V6 maps from 2760 and V4 maps.

The firmware went well, had trouble with the maps. Took 3 attempts to get a DVD that it would read properly. Had the 'lack of detail' problem on 1, the 'keeps reloading' on the second and the third was good.

There is a comment about the map being slow on 3810 'A' Units. It was slow under the 'lack of detail' problem but now it has loaded properly it seems fine. If yours is slow, I suggest reburning and reloading the maps.

Also, it seems the Regensburg Syndrome has gone away. Just when I start the car it is pointing in the wrong direction (north) but the map shows up immediately. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought I read in a thread somewhere that it was resolved in 3810 and found a thread where the poster said it wasn't.

Hi Pete, the Version Info didn't come up for me either on 2760 (A Unit). Upgraded to 3810 and now it appears. Didn't do any recoding.

"Version" didn't appear in my radio screen either (2760 on rev.C unit) until the FW upgrade was applied (now running 4120).

I also had "Regensburg Syndrome", and initially it went away. Two days later I had trouble tracking satellites, even though the RNS could "see" them. Ended up moving the puck from inside the dash to above the light sensor and secured it with some 3M commander adhesive (used for the removable wall hooks), it's been fine ever since.

That is false. fw4120 definitely shows radio text. but that isn't a map upgrade, that is a RNS510 firmware upgrade.
                      Latest maps is v6=7920

They normally wont update the firmware unless unit has problems Easy enough to download and install from this thread

If you cant get the version info it probably wasnt updated as you need 3810 or later to access the info.

Most units seem to have 2760 unless they are very new (2012 on)

                          • After a few days, it seems my RNS 510 isn't turning off at all. I have an 'A" unit running 3810. I was trying to find info on "Fix for old CAN gateways and whether it would apply to my car. Can anyone point me to info on it?
