Any ideas how I can get the phone back without having to go back to the installer??

If it was working and now its not either its come loose from the RNS510 or its faulty.
Either way you have to take it out and plug it back in to test. Pretty easy to do that yourself.

4020 is fine for your unit. There are newer maps (7679) too.

can anyone confirm if upgrading from 3910 to 4020 will erase all the music? I've read it keeps the maps, but what about the music.

You will lose music UNLESS you already have a 90/5/5 custom partition scheme.

So if you are running a modified 3xxx firmware it will not modify the existing data on the partitions. Else it will delete the lot in order to resize the partitions.

A longer disclaimer is in order:
This will WIPE OUT your maps, mp3 and, if present, custom boot logo

              Now...
Hopefullly, the benefits from the upgrade cover these losses...
However, I must say I haven´t seen any benefits/improvements whatsoever (coming from 3890 IIRC)

Thanks John - I've done the upgrade to 4020 and the V5 Maps. Can't seem to be able to load Custom POI's now though (menu item greyed out). Any thoughts?

UPDATE: Ignore me... somehow missed the instructions to put the POI file in /personalPOI/personalPOI.db3 on the SD Card.

                  Thanks,
                  Shane.

Thanks for the confirmation. I do currently have 90/5/5 partitions, so I should be ok.

                    I'll go update now

Many thanks for that update. All went well and I was a newbie to 90/5/5, I replaced the maps, POI and music just fine.

After upgrading to 4020, I am not able to install the navigation maps (Western Europe V8 )
It just stops at about 1/3 of the way
I noticed you guys came up with a specific EU version of the FW, to allow for the larger maps...
                            ...except the links aren´t working.
Can someone help me out here (point me to an alternate source)? Thanks in advance

Your map partition is too smal for EU maps.
                              Take a look here: http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...its-70579.html
Kamold works now on firmware for european unit with partition ratio 75/20/5.

Out of interest, I have a C unit from a mid-2010 car that came with 2767 from memory

                                My history:

Upgraded to 3810, an approved one. All worked fine, did not need to reinstall maps BUT I noticed the screen flickered consistently. Very annoying and mainly when on a brightness less than max. Was advised this had been seen before and to upgrade to 3970. Unit then changed to become a D unit

3970 - worked like a charm. required maps upgrading and as I then had V5 used them and all was good. Took about 55 minutes to upgrade and about 15-20 mins for the maps. All worked fine

Have just upgraded to 4020 (as it shows on my unit). Took 55 minutes again and same process as always.

Went to install maps and this time it took about 35 minutes to install the same V5 maps. Normally I noticed the blue bar would run across, and at the end I would be notified to eject the disk. This time it went to the end, then restarted and did this three times. At different speeds as if it was lading the data in a different way.

For most of the time there was a blank screen, then it found my location but had no coordinates until right at the end when the coordinates were there.

So, at present, all seems to be fine. Will report with any issues...
