Yep ... Just realised John's is a true C (like mine) and obviously worked for him.

So it must be a disk or burn issue.

Fcuking annoying then ... cause never had an issue before with my choice of media and using imgburn.

when using imgburn, ensure that the correct speed is selected. When you select "WRITE" mode, the RHS of the window will have a speed selection option. Ensure that 1X is selected. THEN , select the 'button' to the right of that "has a green man icon" on it. Go into the options there, label your disc and ensure that the burning speed is set to 1X.

      Then extract/copy/write.

Yep ... that's what I meant by annoying!

Have always burnt the files to disk that way.

Never had this problem with previous modified FW & modified maps!

Sorry to hear aussietig. It's very frustrating, and slow process.

I had a number of issues initially, but they were related to the modified scripts I was using. I have quite a neat collection of dead CDs now too. Make sure you are resetting the unit after it's thrown the error code in the correct manner (as shown at the bottom of the screen when the code is present. It's the one with the setup button in the sequence.

I did at one point have so many issues, I reverted back to the modified 3970 (which installed fine) and then retried a slightly different version (the one now being shared) of 4020 and it worked. That may be worth a shot if it keeps tripping up at the same spot. Mine always fell over at the end of APPL and just before HDD. My initial errors are without a doubt in relation to the HDD script/bad burns and incorrect CRCs.

Try another burn maybe. Like I said, I made a copy of the one that worked for me, rar'd it and uploaded it. There could be a fault in the compression/upload processes, but until I start getting user feedback, I'm a bit stuck.

Will test on the way home and see if the promoted speed improvements exist.

Well that's good news. So the ISO is ok at least.

Somehow reverting back to FW3970 resolved my SWL Error problem.

Now have the modified FW4020 working.

                      Very strange indeed!

The only culprit that I can think of is possibly the custom boot logo I had.
In reverting back, I did lose it and went back to the stock logo.
Then the same disk loaded without any hiccups!

Did any of you guys who loaded it first go have any kind of custom boot logo installed beforehand?

In terms of the upgrade itself ... yeah I can't tell (at this stage either) what are the improvements.

Glad it worked out for you. Interestingly, I didn't have a custom boot screen when I did the update. I did have one a while back, but in testing it got written over with a proper SWL_CD 2xxx a few months back.

So maybe boot logo is not the culprit!

However, that is the only thing I lost by reverting back.
Initially I thought I would lose my modified V5 map as well, but i didn't.

So it can't be that either!

Just trying to identify the gremlin by process of elimination!

Maybe it's just that time of the month!

                            Ha! Nicely done! So true.

I have no idea, just glad I don't have to trouble shoot it

I had a custom logo and installed 402x first time. Have to put it back on now
I think VAG should employ John to create their graphics. SOOOOOOOOO much nicer than the default ones.

I have an aftermarket rns510 with Kufatec Fiscon plus bluetooth unit (vets 2)
The microphone stopped working a couple of months ago.
I was advised to update the Kufatec software which I did, but this did not help
I decided to try updating the RNS510 software, and successfully updated from 27xx to 42xx today.
Added the V5 map - no problems.
But now when I press the hard telephone button on the RNS it acts as a pause button for my iPod -

Any ideas how I can get the phone back without having to go back to the installer??
