Met up with wandersen and could see that he had POIs on his (C unit, FW 2720).
But none on mine (also C unit but FW 3930) running the same V4 map.
So it's literally just a map upgrade, with no file structure change required by FW 3810 or higher, to support things like basic POIs.
Let alone, my pipe dream of SD Card upload of personal POIs.
Anyhow my advice is to rollback to FW 2760 or lower, if you really want the basic POIs back.
Cause they're definitely there on the V4 map!
First, you need to access the secret menu and enable "software downgrade" (to ensure you don't have any problems).
Now if you don't have the secret menu enabled already, then unfortunately you'll need VCDS to enable it.
Note: you will lose map and music with this downgrade and need to re-install both on HDD.

Has someone got a copy of V4 maps that I can possibly acquire?
In contact with someone who thinks they have some ideas on how to integrate sensis data from other sources to create a 'patched' version that is more up to date.
Yes ... it's funny now but not at the numerous times when the woman tells me to go further up and do a U-turn and then turn left, just to get onto a street which clearly is accessible by just turning right (but obviously a "no right turn" according to the map).
Last weekend I did a run through roadworks not yet complete on the bypass and Stromlo Forrest Park area - they were started well over 12 months ago and have shifted the original road ... V4 did not go amiss once. I think it's a sure upgrade of the map data, but there seemed to be no fix to the POI issue.

How's everyone going with version 4 maps?
Looking at a new car over the weekend and the RNS510 system have a version 3 disc dated 2009, on asking the dealer he stated that it was supplied by VW Australia with the car and had not seen (or heard of) version 4 maps yet. The car was built April 2011 and compliance plated June 2011 so pretty new.

Anyone out there who would be willing to burn a copy of their V4 disk, or I can send a blank DVD - whatever is best. I use Pimp-My-Nav to be able to add on my speed cameras which change frequently, and each time I update them in the car I need the 'original' disk - which I have for V3. Anyone able to help? Thanks

Just to add, another eBayer is selling these disks. He has 9 available apparently. With a $50 postage charge. This must mean they have lots of updates if the disc has become that much heavier to post with all the chnages from V3

Read the rest of his ad, and you'll see he'll send it post free if you pay by bank transfer.
The $50 (and the 7-day delay in posting the item) is to discourage buyers from paying with PayPal, with which you have a certain amount of protection — with bank transfer you effectively have none.
Also look at his positive feedback rating of about 67% — the norm on Ebay is 98-100% (of course this might also be because he's sold only one, but if that buyer was happy, shouldn't it mean he'd have 100%?)
I'm sure I've seen him advertising elsewhere, as well. As that financial writer says: "Tread your own path."
