Beauty thanks. Just what I needed to know. Yeah my retrofit kit includes that blown foam mount too. Will whack it under drivers seat. Thnx.

      • All installed and working nicely. Including BT streaming from Tune in Radio to my ancient RCD310. Install only took me an hour and a half and the tips of using a piece of coax for poke through was excellent thnx. Worked a treat through head lining and not need to remove sunvisor or vanity lights to gain access. Didn't get the foam tape but used some medical micro-pore tap to wrap the mic cable so it does not rattle in the head lining.

Unfortunately I broke off three of the head units facia clips. Although I was careful and suspect this may have occurred during a previous service. Should stay on without them as it has 7 in total.

What s the go with the all the VCDS error messages the module throws. Is there some coding I can do to stop them or do I just live with them.

        • Try setting this to 'Not Installed' - refers to the phone shortcut buttons on the roof that you wouldn't have:

          • Thanks that fixed it. Even though practically the unit was working fine - in the coding screen VCDS recognised the module had not been initialised and offered to do so with default coding. so I let it do that.
Then I recoded Byte 7 as you suggested as not buttons fitted. Then Byte 6 as no baseplate fitted so no diagnostics for it required. Finally Byte 5 to make Antenna diagnostic inactive as not fitted either. All good now, with no faults. Thanks heaps.

Addendum. I found it was really easy to re affix the broken clips to my facia using a soldering iron. The facia in the attached image is not mine, but can bee seen to also be missing several silver metal clips. It looks like it has been repaired with hot glue, which was going to be my next port of call. My facia has sufficient of the PBS tabs left, so I could poke them back through the metal clip. Then a touch with a soldering iron to re melt it and all good. As a a further measure I spread the 7 clips slightly so they do not hold as tightly in future.

                • Sweet. Mine ended up looking just like that so I am glad I asked. Thnx. I ran the wires in beside the seat harness you can see in your pic.
BTW build date on my module was only 5 weeks ago, late Aug 2013, so Carsystems stock is right up to date.

                  • hi all,

i have been reading the options available through this thread with regards to adding bluetooth for the RCD510 in my '11 gti. looking at logger's posts it seems the unit below should be a treat when hooked up (all options ticked bluetooth streaming, voice control, mfd)

VW Bluetooth KIT 7P6035730L - Retrofit - Newest Version

is there anyone based in melbourne here that offers installation (dealer, vw specialist)? i am not familiar with the coding required and the last posts in this thread regarding installation from my search may be outdated? any help would be appreciated before i give my credit card a working out.

                    thanks

                    • Honestly you're better off going DIY or asking an experienced forum member who's done this already rather than looking for a workshop. Ask in the VCDS forums for someone who can do the coding afterwards.

                        hi ryan

thanks for the advice. i sent a message to carsystems asking what is required for installation and they came back with, this is the best option for RCD ..

can anyone here clarify the difference?

also ryan to your point, i might have to start making some friends with people here who have done the install before

                        • That one can also be used in rSAP (remote SIM) mode.

                          Pros:
Has antenna to improve call reception
Can send SMS via head unit
                          Saves phone battery

                          Cons:
Not all phones support rSAP (although you can still use it in the UHV mode as per the other bluetooth module you listed)
Disconnects your phone's 3G so you lose the Internet for email delivery and other apps

There's an even newer version of the rSAP version that now includes WiFi hotspot (shares your phones data as a WiFi hotspot for others in the car to use I think) if you want to look out for it - model numbers ends in a D iirc.

thanks for the swift info Ryan! looks like the previous 7p6035730l will be suffice for me, more interested in just having what is now stock standard for most cars - bluetooth connectivity. doubt i will be looking to use rSAP.

                            • Enjoying my BT retrofit. However I have noticed that my 7P6035730L installation is missing the phone battery gauge and iPod connected icons on the white MFD. I simply see

                              Battery and iPod status icons.
Regardless of phone connected. Iphone 5, Nexus 4 no battery info gets to the MFD on my installation.

A quick Google tells me the missing icons can occur on both 76P & 9W7 modules. I am hoping it is simply a coding issue. Further I do not think it is because I only have the toy RCD310 because people with up-spec radios report same issue. Anyone got the battery icons working and VCDS so we can compare coding? Ross Tech do not seem to have coding for this idiosyncrasy, but that does not mean it does not exist. Just may not have been recognised yet.
